AM I being Too picky?
Thanks
Answer:
No, you weren't picky at all. Maybe it's just a Mommy-instinct thing. I didn't get to have children of my own, but I taught elementary school for 20 years or so, and you are correct about how the kids would handle the goody bag thing.
As their teacher, I would often make little treat bags for my students and I did the EXACT same thing. I might have differentiated on the design on the bag, but everyone got the SAME goodies and the same amounts, AND I brought extra, just in case I accidentally left someone or someTHING out.
I suppose, some folks would just fill up the bags... but by divvying up the stuff equally, it just removes one more potential headache for the day.
Men don't see what we see. I'd probably do the same as you :)
I dont think your being picky if you want to fill the bags evenly, just to do it... But I do think you should teach your son that everything in life is not always equal, and that there will be times and him and Suzy have different stuff... I would do it because I like uniform looking bags, not becuase my son is going to throw a fit...
On one hand, kids DO have a tendency to notice stuff like that, and go ape over it.
On the other hand, they SHOULD just learn to cope and deal.
But, I think its thoughtful of you to not saddle the teacher with a potential argument. They can learn to cope and deal from their parents.
Good luck, and if your hubby wants to tell you how to do it, hand over the project and say "Here, go for it. I'm sure you will do MUCH better" ;)
I think you did the right thing. Little kids can get easily upset about things like that. It sounds like a typical guy thing to say. It's the easy way out to just fill the bags. You did the right thing as a woman.
I would have sorted them out too. Cause you wouldn't want any of the kids to be mad cause they didn't get what the other one got. It doesn't mean your to picky it means your just trying to be fair with all the kids it's not a big deal.
I don't think your being to picky. I think it's sweet that you took out the time to make sure that all the goody bags are "fair". Your husband is right about most people just filling the bags up though. I think it great that you were being so thoughtful though. Happy Valentines Day!
No you're not picky or weird, you're a good mom.
I don't think that you are wrong at all, I do this as well even if the kids don't pay attention it is worth knowing that you are sending the message that everyone is the same and gets the same from your child. My husband says that I am picky also. In all fairness you are teaching good values.
DEAR
IT IS OK JUST SETTLE DOWN IT IS JUST CANDY OK PLEASE DO NOT HAVE A HEART ATTACK OVER IT OK
TAKE CARE GOOD LUCK.
You are correct and your husband is wrong.
Children do notice who has what--bigger piece of cake--more candy--whatever!
hi,
you are a little bit picky but that is the way things are. so in a way you are both right . i don't think that the kids will know because they will be getting so much candy tomorrow that little Jimmy might have one or two more pieces than little Jan but it will go unnoticed. if you want to take the time to make sure that they all get the same amount go right ahead no big deal.
no its fine good job
The first person who has answered is right. We don't care about such things.
I think that is caring, and fabulous parenting. Thanks. Whenever we can avoid a good time or a treat been ruined by tantroms is fabulous, and even the most soft natured well behaved child has a bad day. As a parent. I am thankful when people care so much. So thank you!!
I would have done the same ,so no you are not to picky.
no you are not and if the children didn't get the same amount they may not talk to your son again
I do what you do; and I do think most moms do as well - we know that kids compare stuff.
You are not picky. I think as far as you are concerned it is a good thing that you are trying to treat the kids equally. However, please consider, this widespread attachment to sugar culture & consumption HAS TO END AT SOME POINT SOON...
No you weren't picky at all. You just want to be fair. Some people don't notice and just fill the bag with anything. You did the right thing. Good job! Happy Valentines Day!
No you are not picky! I agree with you also. Kids notice everything. And yes I would sort the bags also! lol
I can't say that you are picky because I do the same thing. I just want to be fair to all the kids. In my daughter's class, they don't even get to open the bags until they take them home, and I still make sure everyone has the same number or candy, etc. Daddies are just totally different than mommies.
Your not being to picky. I know kids need to learn that they may not always get the same thing as their friends do, but I always sort threw the candy and let my kids help make the treat bags. I like making sure it is fair for all the kids to have the same. Some parents do just make sure the treat bags have the same amount though. I do the same thing you did, however if I have like 10 tootsie rolls left & 10 bubble gums I will just add them to the treat bags because I like making nice treat bags and figure 1 extra piece of candy is nice even though it might be different. It's nice to see I am not alone on the treat bag issue, that their are other parents out there that like it to be the same & equal.
As an elementary school teacher- THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I wish more moms were like you and cared that much. I wouldn't stress over it; but what a great mom!
You are so not being picky. You are just watching out for your son. Your husband just doesn't understand what moms would do for their kids.
No you are not wrong. Children are learning at a very early age what is fair. They spot differences first. You are a mother willing to take the time to eliminate potential problems in the classroom. I'm sure the teacher appreciates your careful attention to details.
God bless mothers like you.
That's not being picky at all. The children are the picky one's. You are just stopping a problem-them arguing over who got what.
