I have a 16 yr old with high functioning autisim( like dustin hoffman in rain man) my sister has a really autistic child also, the one thing they have in common on not coping is loud anything!
and giving to may directions at once.
example for 3 yr od of what I am saying is, dont, pick it up, put it away, your naughty, stop it etc.
on speaking to my child one day he told me that his head hurts when i yell or give him directions, he told me he can only cope with no more than two at a time, otherwise he forgets what i said and becomes furious that his head doesnt (brain) doesnt work.
I have applied this to my nephew with brilliant results when he is around me, and yes it works.
I give my 16yr old 2 chores to do or write them down never to many though as he would see 5 things a a never ending task and go into a rage of not coping.
when you speak to your son do it slowly, show by example, its almost like baby talk all over again. Make it fun, without silliness they go overboard really quickly.
How you react, is also teaching them, if you yell they will think thats ok but do it 10 times worse.
Medication has never worked for my sister or me, but clamness at all costs does. Good luck and a doctor told me once that I was special to be given a child with special needs.
Just to let you know my child is studing law and gets all A's plus A's in music so hang in there.
My friend has a five year old boy who has always acted just the way you explained. He still bites my dog!! But I have noticed he has calmed down some in the last two years. She has put him on a strict routine thru the day and he visits a special learning centre for learning difficulties. Also he has to see a speech pathologist. He still doesnt talk much at five. I think its a matter of knowing him and his tendencies and what to expect. But the most important is routine. Autistic chidren learn things in a different way or they respond better to other methods, try to find an autistic group or disability centre to help you. Local schools or councils may have some info if you can't find any. Hang in there, be strong and try to enjoy the different way he sees things....
He needs a strict routine most autistic children thrive on routine and have a meltdown with anything new being introduced. My child has mild PDD which is in the Autism spectrum. I agree with what Bev J said. I also have a 9 year old son that has high functioning autism. So I agree with no overloading his brain and keeping it quiet. If your son gets over stimulated, it can cause him to act out. Meds never worked for my son either, so I just stopped giving them to him. It seemed to make things worse. I do know that they have things at health food stores, called Memorin, and Attend. These things are supposed to do well with autistic, or adhd kids. I havent tried them myself, but I have a friend that uses them for her son, and she says they work miracles on her son who is 6 ( I dont know about giving them to a 3 year old, but you could ask a doctor, however they always seem to disagree with anything that isnt a prescription) I just havent gotten to a health food store aroudn here yet to try them, but i want to. Have you gotten him into Occupational Therapy? That also helps alot. I had my son in OT for a while, and he takes it at school occasionally too , to help him out. It may take 6 months or more of it to show any type of improvement but its worth it. Hope all goes wel for you and good luck with your son.:)
The best way to deal with this is to talk to a specialist. I have a cousin who has this but to be around him you would not know it. His parents have him on a schedule that works get. They say the only time he is throw off his schedule is in the summer because they go camping and he does not have school. The best way to deal with him is to treat him as a normal child when it comes to biting and hurting others. Best of luck.
You might want to contact your local Autism Society Chapter and they can get you in touch with a specialist to see what kind of treatment is best for your son. The earlier an Autistic child can get into treatment the better. You might be able to find help at the Autism Society of America website.

I'm not sure where you are, but in the states most public schools have a program that he could be in starting when he turns 3 (even if he turns three in the middle of the school year, he can start then). The teachers can help him with his social skills. Call your public school and ask them about it.

ok, at my school, there is an autistic class. Find one and have him work with a specialist. Its normal that he cant talk. Lots of autistic kids grow out of autism by the time they're adults.
Most important: dont give up hope.
