Anyone know the difference between a Nanny and a Sitter?
Answer:
A nanny lives there a sitter dosent
Most of the time a nanny is live in a sitter lives outside your home
A nanny is someone who cares for children and it is their career. A sitter is someone who occassionally watches children, but doesn't plan on doing it as a full-time job.
A nanny is NOT someone who lives there...they CAN live there, but not usually. At least not where I'm from.
This is something from the website www.canadiannanny.ca:
Q: What are the differences between Au Pairs, Nannies, and Mother Helpers?
A: An au pair typically has basic childcare experience. An Au pair is often coming to stay with a family for a cultural exchange / childcare work and experience for one year. Au pairs typically don't make a career out of childcare work as nannies do.
A: Nannies have several years of childcare experience. Nannies are not necessarily seeking a cultural exchange; rather, it is the long-term career-building experience in childcare they are seeking.
A: A Mothers helper is when a nanny is hired to assist the mother with childcare and household needs. The mother is in the home majority of the time.
a nanny falls asleep and a sitter has to sit through the crap
A nanny sleeps w/ your husband & a sitter... well they are the same. Sorry.
A nanny generally lives with a family full time, a sitter is just there when the parents are working or are going out without the kids
nanny- usually a live in full time
sitter-visits part time
A nanny is with the child more like an alternative guardian when the parents aren't available. They help with homework, know the child's schedule and personality. A sitter is someone who is there just to watch the child(ren) usually because they are too young to stay alone.
With a nanny they are considered domestic help and you have to pay taxes on wages. I was a nanny earlier this year for a few months. Also some nannies are live-in ( I wasn't a live-in)
A nanny generally lives in with the family or stays for a full 8+ hour shift. A babysitter is usually only there for a few hours, or for the night/weekend.
A nanny is there all the time, a sitter is like for a few hours.
Most nannys are long term and do more than just babysit!
Well i think a Nanny is a more personable care taker, they are more involved in the daily activities of the children and household, in most cases they live with the family and become part of the family. A sitter is more temporary, less involved in the family activities and structure. The sitter can have a deep relationship with the family but the Nanny will have a deeper one because they are included in the majority of how the household is ran.
a nanny is scheduled part time or full time...a sitter is on-call
nanny get paid more...
well a sitter sometimes just babysits a couple times or is a regular. and a nanny will sometimes live with the family.and sometimes they just come daily and do more than just watch children. clean house, laundry, stuff like that.
As a babysitter I just watch the kids and do not take professional responsibility for their overall emotional needs. When hired as a nanny I am hired as a professional with credentials and give guidance and advice when asked by the parents.
As a Nanny I feel like am more of a substitute parent when needed and participate in the child's upbringing if this is wanted by the parents. Nannies usually work regular longer hours. I have worked in both capacities and have come up with this interpretation. Nannies also tend to be more a part of the families, even if they are not live in assistants.
Different familes have individual needs that require assistance.
Happy Holidays!
Nannys usually have an education in child developmen/psychology/educatio... Baby sitters don't, are mostly teens trying to supplement their allowances.
nanny's are live ins
A nanny makes 10 x the amout of money a sitter is usually a teen kid that works cheep.
a nanny is more involved in your child's life. i was one for seven years. i did a lot more than i do with kids i am babysitting for a couple of hours a day. i was with the kids from early morning until evenings. i was with them more than their parents. basically, a substitute parent. i took them all kinds of place, taught them their alphabets, numbers, writing, etc. a babysitter is not as involved. they are there only for a short time. if you know a nanny, NEVER, EVER call them a babysitter.
a nanny lives in and a sitter just looks after them occasionally
