10 year old will not eat anything (more or less)?
will not eat a hamburger, hot dog, nachos, chicken breast or fried chicken, no veggies and no fruit...literally...he just won't eat any of these or any other foods.
the quantity of food is slowly getting smaller and smaller as is the types of food he will eat.
he absolutely WILL NOT eat anything else or even try.
what causes this? is this an eating disorder? is this a physical sign of a psychological problem? any advice? he seems rather old for this type of behavior.
Answer:
Well im like that too but im skinny but not annorexic the thing is that you should maybe just make him more of the stuff he likes more stuff than u do all the time.
He doesn't have an eating disorder or anything like that. Trust me, he's just being 10 yrs. old.
Don't pressure him into trying new things, he'll try them when he's ready. Before you know it he'll be sick of pop tarts and pizza and will try other foods.
As long as he isn't drastically losing weight or feeling ill, it's perfectly fine for him not to have a major variety in his diet.
just a phase. only give him what you want, when he gets hungry, he will eat it. If you give in to him, and only give him what he wants, he will continue to be stubborn because he knows that he can get you to cave.
It's not a disorder, unless being a human child is a disorder. Kids constantly push their limits to see what they can do. Right now, he is pushing his limits with you to see what you will do to make him happy. It will only get worse if you keep caving.
He's just acting his age. If in 1 year, he's still not eating a lot, maybe take him to see a doctor, but right now, theres nothing to worry about.
have you prayed to jesus or seen a doctor about this. I have 2 pick eaters and they eat certain foods also but they are still toddlers. Make sure he takes vitamins or has some pediasure to make sure he stays healthy.
its just somthing kids do, at certain ages they will have there fav. foods and thats what they know they like, he just does not want to try somthing and it be nasty. he knows these foods are good so he is gonna keep doing this unless you make him sit at the dinner table till he trys the new food. (trust me it will work)
Give him healthy options and nothing else. Trust me he will eat if and when he's really hungry.
lots of little kids are finicky eaters...what have you done to try to introcude new foods? what foods? how do you introduce them? email me if you like at cocoangel101@yahoo.com (my FeelBaby.com email) and I will try to help
call your doctor, ask yoru mom or a motherly figure/type and go to the doctor if you're really worried...God bless!
Don't worry, he is just being a 10 year old. I know, I have one too. My son eats a lot of the same things that your son does with the exception of the meat you mentioned in the second paragraph, he does like meat. He used to love veggies, now he won't touch them, except for peas. He will eat peas, on occassion. Do not worry, his taste will change as he gets older. Mine did, things that I would not touch as a child, now I love to eat. Your child is completely normal. But if you are that concerned, I would just run it by his doctor.
Probably he has a "wise" body, rejecting artificial food. Take him to the grocery and have him pick whatever he wants to eat. Stop making an issue out of eating, cause this migh be adding up to the anxiety about food. Have the pediatriciam check him and, if he is healthy, don't pay much attention to him during meals.
I myself am of the "eat it or the next meal is in X hours" style of feeding. I don't run a restaurant and neither did my mom. But he sounds a bit old to be doing this and if it's getting more narrowed in what he will eat doesn't sound normal.
Have you discussed this with your pediatritian? Perhaps he needs a child psychologist to talk to him and find out if it is a mental problem and not just him being a fussy kid.
Does he eat when he's with his friends or at their houses? At school for lunch? Or is it just when he's with you at home?
Are you beggin him to eat?
It sounds like he is eating fine ecept for the veggies and the friut
Juicy juice is a good brand of juice, and corn on the cob is a good vegetable.
But at 10 years old it sounds bad , like an eating disorder.
My suggestion is don't by the special brands and for him to eat what you've made for dinner by not purchasing the stuff they like or cooking it,
i have gone 4 days without eating and i did not die.
he won't either,
eventually he'll get hungry and eat,
probably pitch a fit, so brace yourself , but don't give in.
And don't coax him, it could be for attention, and it could be you've spoiled him,
try it this way for 2 weeks, bet you it works,
Also I have a 10 year old son who, always says he doesn't like things, i used to tell him everything was chicken just to get him to eat, but now i just put the dinner down and tell him to eat.
If he complains i say tough, and he is able to make his own food, but i don't buy him special brands, and i don't buy him special cereal.
if he's hungry enough he'll eat.
Also nachos are snacks, give him plain stuff, like white rice and stew with gravy, and cresent rolls
then sloowly fry onions and peas in a pan, salt them and incorporate them into the rice.
I have a deepfryer and i make my own french fries, but i make sure when i make the meat its tender, and has no fat or grisle
and if you bake a pie - get a pie crust and put peaches, pears, apples, cherries, from the can, into the crust, cover and bake, but don't add the sugar, it tastes just as good , maybe a bit tart, but with cool whip he'd never notice.
These are easy healthy, meals and most kids like it,
fish fillets, with the sauce,
And salad, you could let him be incharge of making it, and choose a salad dressing he likes my son likes vinegar-ish dressings.
trust me.
good luck.
Meg
"the quantity of food is slowly getting smaller and smaller as is the types of food he will eat."
THIS IS BECAUSE YOU ARE ALLOWING HIM TO ONLY EAT WHAT HE WANTS, THEREFORE INFORCING HIS BEHAVIORS.
"he absolutely WILL NOT eat anything else or even try."
AGAIN, DO NOT BE A PUSHOVER, THIS IS YOUR KID, AND PARENTING IS TOUGH, HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE JUST YOUR FRIEND, HE'S YOUR SON AND IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RAISE HIM HEALTHY. STOP BEING A PUSHOVER. HE WILL EAT WHAT YOU WANT HIM TO EAT, YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE HIM DO THIS. STOP BUYING THOSE JUNK FOODS AND GIVE HIM SOME REAL NUTRITION. HE MAY CRY NONSTOP AND GO HUNGRY FOR A DAY BUT THIS YOUNG THE CYCLE WONT TAKE TOO LONG TO BREAK. GOOD LUCK.
He's not being ten. He doesn't want to grow up. that is what the typical 5 y/o eats. Introduce him to fun foods that you think he will like.
What a horrible diet! I suggest just don't even offer those things at all. If he is hungry, he will come around and eat what is served.
if it his habits continue try talking to a nutritionist to see if its normal but to start i would give him whats for dinner and make him eat whats on his plate or nothing else and try and talk to his mom see if shes having the same problem he might just be unhappy uncomfortable or not used to the situation and this is how he deals with it or he just might not like your cooking no of fens but children are so picky and to change what they aren't used to takes time.
I have a ten year old son and a 17 year old son. This is a phase. Both my boys went through this. Give it time. One other thing to consider is what he eats when he's not at your house. Talk to the other parent and find out what is going on at home. Does he only eat like that when he's visiting with you? I'm certain this will pass and he is and will be healthy.
