Anyone have attitude problems from their 11 year old boy?
Answer:
Part of the "attitude" and hygiene issues are part and parcel of being an eleven year old boy. The rolling of the eyes and deep sighs at everything you say/suggest is a common occurence for this age. I have 3 sons 15, 12 and almost 11 years old. In our elementary school the 4th grade teachers give hygiene talks to the students every year because this is the time some kids start "smelling funky"; the teachers deal with it in a straight forward manner, with humor and a package of deodorant for each student. (which the kids think is great!) The funk may last through 7th or 8th grade, depending on the child. I think the issues with dad may have something to do with the attitude; however, DON'T criticize dad, no matter how irritating he may be - it is very important for a boy to develop a strong connection with dad at this point in life. By that I mean they start identifying themselves by their same sex parent at this stage in life. Perhaps if dad was aware of this he might want to "step up" his responsibility in dealing with his child's issues. Have you spoken to the school psychologist about this? Some districts have great accessibility to good psychologists - others are so overworked they will only deal with students with serious crises in their lives. I would DEFINITELY set up a meeting with the teacher, your son, dad and you and go over the issues at hand. Obviously your son is a bright child; hopefully you will all get through this without too much stress.
p.s. Mom - don't sweat the small stuff! Recognize the GOOD and positive things about your son - not only what he does, BUT WHO HE IS on the INSIDE! Remind him (and yourself) that HIS thoughts and feelings DO count!
You may want to get his farther involved in this because little boys need there dads. Sometimes they don't feel comfortable with us telling them things.
You should check into it more as much as you can. Call the school and find out if they have any idea as to why he is acting this way all of a sudden or not. He may be bullied or something. Have him checked by the doctor too. I have heard of depression at this early age happening as well. Good luck!
11 year old boys are the definition of attitude. They are trying everything to see where the real limits are at.
Are you sure theres no pressure on him, kids tend to crack quite easily under pressure, i remember i did, you have to grow out of certain levels of pressure. Its possible hes being bullied or a teacher has been particularly horrible to him etc. Or he's just not socialising well etc
Hi I have 2 boys ages now are 17yrs & 20 and many friends with teenage boys. 5th grade is when it seems to start. I think alot of it has to do with puberty. What you can do is first rule out any medical or psychological problems by starting with his Pediatrition. It may be that he is just not challenged enough & he is bored. I found that getting them involved in something that interested them helped. Most importantly staying active in his life and being there to guide him. Also the school may offer some programs or advice and also your community may have programs.
you need to spank him now. you have said that every thing else doesent work. it has been proven that spanking is the only efective punshment.
welcome to puberty. It's the hormones he's dealing with at his age.
Unfortunately, you have to put up with it too.
Sorry mom !
