5th grader handing out money at school today...?

My ten year old son just got home from school and has a $100 bill in his hand. He said his friend was handing out 20's, 50's and 100's to a few people (the bills are real). He said he made the money doing yardwork. The school is having everyone return the money to them. Having just spoken with the school secretary regarding this issue, I learned that the kid giving out money had well over a couple thousand on him!

We don't lilve in a high crime area. Our streets are safe and the child who brought the money is not one to get in trouble. The average home in my neghborhood goes for around $200k. We're a suburb of Chicago, not a rich neighborhood! Where would he get this money??

I'm so curious as to what's going on, but I'm afraid we'll probably never find out.

Anyone got any ideas?

Answer:
He could have made the money doing yard work. My brother-in-law did very well as a kid doing yard work. Children don't always recognize the value of a dollar or more. I also know that when I did yard work, some people would pay me MUCH more than I asked. Back then I might ask for 8 or 10 dollars and get 20 or 40. Sometimes I could refuse the excess, but they don't take no for an answer very well. You either accept it or get threatened with not getting the job next time.
Another possibility is that he found it at home. Believe it or not, some people do leave money where it doesn't belong and kids find it just like they find guns. The difference is who might get hurt and how.
he's probably selling drug's or his family and well there giving him the money!!!!
A lot of people hide there money in there house.Sounds like the kid got a hold of great grannys stash!
Mabey he saves money realy well!
where do you live again? chicago? hold on, i am moving to chicago. lol
he probably found it. most likely it belongs to a family member of some sort.
Don't give any money back to anyone without an explanation.

Especially not the school personnel. That's not their job or even their jurisdiction.

I'd only give the money back to the kid's parent or a law enforcement officer...but with a plausible explanation.
Umm, is that where I dropped my wallet? In someone's backyard? Just post it to me. Strange how it got there when I've never been to Chicago

Otherwise, who else would stash lots of money in someone's messy yard?
Maybe his parents are getting that money from somewhere and he's found out where they keep it and now stealing it from them. Or maybe his parents are just filthy rich idiots who hand out hundreds when people do yardwork..if that's the case, let me know if they're hiring :-)
The only way you'll find anything out is if you talk to the kid's parents. The school will never tell you the end result, nor will law enforcement.

I would have to suspect the kid took the money from his parents. A lot of people keep large amounts of cash at home (or maybe they just took out some money to buy a car, etc. and had the cash sitting there for the day)... I think just about every kid out there has taken money from their parents at some point in their lives.

I'm sure the school informed his parents, so really it's there problem now. I'm like you though... I'd totally want to know how he got it!
How about asking this kids parents? You might have a meth lab in the neighborhood...I'm not even kidding.

I guess bringing money is better than bringing a gun, no?
TRAPSTAR which is somebody who sells drugs for a living or he could have stole it from his parents
P.S down here in Gerogia 200,000 for a house is upper middle class cause 100,000 gives you a big 2 story house
There was a question on here that I read a few minutes ago it mentioned that 2 young boys stole / found / took their parents Christmas fund and was distributing it amoung peers at school.
probably stole from his parents ,checked in for cash . I really don't know how he could get that money
