Not crawling related to ADHD, dyslexia, problems in reading?

I have a 7 year old first grader. I am a nanny to my pediatrician, who after seeing my child day after day after day and great discussion and testing, diagnosed him with ADHD at age 5. At the begining of 1st grade my son was placed in Title 1, a program designed to help children who have problems with reading. In December, his reading teacher and class room teacher shared their concerns with me that he may have dyslexia. My pediatrician stated that he very well may be dysliexic and often times dyslexia is masked as ADHD in younger children. The school is now testing him.
I have often heard that babies who don't learn to crawl before they walk can have problems learning to read due to their motor development. He didn't crawl till after he walked. Is there any information out there you could share?

Please refrain from sharing any negative comments about ADHD. I do not believe in drugs over discipline. He was properly tested and diagnosed.

Answer:
I honestly don't know if they're all related, but it makes sense to me. We're kind of going through the same thing with my oldest child, and he didn't crawl, period. Just got up and walked across the house one day.

The good thing is, with dyslexia, behavior modification when it comes to schoolwork, etc., makes it possible for kids to make it through school and lead productive lives. I have a cousin with dyslexia, and once my aunt and uncle worked with her teachers and everything, she did really well in school and is now a CPA.
i don't think that is true, my son is now 6 and he never crawled and he doesn't have a learning difficulties now my daughter who is three crawled before she walked and is being tested for autism and/or adhd so far i only was given pervasive develemental disorder. I don't believe crawling had anything to do with it, I am glad you do not believe in drugs to treat adhd they is many behavioral ways to deal and teach you and your child to deal with it and it is great you caught all of this early.
my son did not crawl until he was 1 yr old. He crawled first, then at 18 months he walked. He is in special ed for motor skills and cognition development. I do belive there is something to your theory.
my son didnt crawl until very late. and my dr. reassured me that so many babies crawl different ways and at differest stages that they no longer say that crawling has anything to do with development. i believed him and my son has since been right on schedule. and even so, it sounds like you are doing a great job and whether he crawled or not, if he has ADHD or is dyslexic, it has absolutely nothing to do with your parenting. so be patient and keep up the good work. good luck to your family
I have two sons age 10 and 12. Both learned to walk before they could crawl (at 11 and 10 months of age). They both read very well, in fact when my 10 year old was in 2nd grade he read all the Harry Potter books and was tested at an 8th grade reading level. I think that reading to my children at an early age every night gave them an interest in books and they love to read.

Also, my 12 year old was diagnosed with ADD when he was in 5th grade. He wasn't hyper, he just couldn't concentrate in school. He refused to take Adderral because he could not swallow pills. One teacher suggested we give him a Coke every morning instead as this acts different for kids than adults and might give him the boost he needs (whether it was real or something that made him believe it worked, I don't know, but it DID work and he got mostly As and did much better in school).
Now he is 12 and doesn't take anything. He is on the honor roll. Either he outgrew it or never had ADD. Our new doctor said just because he doesn't get all As (which he does now) doesn't mean he has ADD because he is still learning what he is taught. So I think it depends on the doctor. I wish you the best of luck with your child. If he is dyslexic, it will be very challenging, but he can still do very well in school with your support. You sound like a great parent.
