check with the state school board and find out which schools are rated "excellent"; for instance Champaign County, West Liberty-Salem is a little, rural school which is rated excellent and has a very supportive community. Will you move?

If you are worried about schools you should definitely check into home school. Our son was really into math and science also but the school was holding him back and as you probably know boredom leads to trouble.
