My 5 year old grandson is acting strange he stands on his tippy toes and?

runs and jumps like that, he also wants his mom to put make-up on him and says that he is a girl. He does have some learning problems such as just potty training and learning to talk. They are only trying to label him as the catch all ADD. Any advice?

Answer:
Many children are often labeled as ADD or ADHD without proper investigation.
The standing on tippy toes can often point to autism, asbergers or developmental delay. The slow potty training and talking can be attributed to this also. Go to your doctor with him and ask for an assessment. Make sure that you tell the doctor about running on tip toes.
I hope this helps, he is nearly at school age and needs to be potty trained in order to attend. There is probably nothing at all to worry about but it would be better to sort out any minor problems- especially potty training sooner rather than later
He's only 5 and is being a 5 year old.
he is a kid been a kid leave him alone
Thats not ADD. Thats confusion.
He might be idolizing a mother, sister or grandmother. He sees his role model as pretty. make up makes her pretty. when she is pretty she is happy, for him to be happy he should be pretty. And child philosophy says "boys are not pretty," Therefore to be happy you must be a girl. Hopefully he will get over it soon.
He's only five. Give them a couple years and see if he grows of it. Maybe he's just becoming aware that girls are different from him and he's curious about that, as kids often are. I don't think you should jump to any conclusions like your grandson is gay, a transvestite or will become a transexual when he grows up. Though if he's still like this by the time he researches his double digits, then you should start learning how to accept the possibilty. You can't change how people are, but you can learn to accept and love them no matter what. Good luck!
Who is "they"? Has he been in a special ed preschool class? Has he been evaluated by a specialist? There can be many reasons why he is acting this way. I can't see that it is ADD. But many children can not control their social behavior and along with that comes delays in development and speech and language. I would recommend to have him evaluated by your school district's special ed team and find out what they have to say.
He's playing make believe whats the big deal. So he's playing being a girl its really no different than dressing up as lets say a pirate. Also if he hasnt got any main male role models in his life to imitate then of course he will imitate his mum or another close woman in his life.
He's just being a kid. My son is 5 and thinks that somedays he is a dog...others he is a dinosaur. My counsin's son...same age...thinks he is a car or truck all the time. They all pick something.

If you are seriously concerned, ask him why he thinks he is a girl. If he has difficulty explaining it, maybe ask a counselor to help find out why. It's not a problem...just a phase. A way for him to express himself.
that's a jump to conclusions. what you have is a curious child not a
freak. he's exploring the other gender to get used to someone prissy. he's probably thinking ahead. i tried that when I wa s 8 and it works. but im completly vice-versa (girl in guys shoes) im normal now though.
there was a show on lifetime about a little boy that started showing signs like that when he was about 2 or 3. And as he got to be older he liked to cross dress and such. But you never know. My little boy at the age of seven is kinda like that, I was a single mom for so long that he thought it was ok to put clear nail polish on and he loved to watch me put my make up on etc... The stuff you mentioned doesn't mean that he is ADD, he just is a curious little boy. Does he have a man in his life? Maybe that is his problem, lord knows that is what was wrong with my little one. Good luck, and just tell him that that stuff isn't meant for little boy's, sports and stuff are for him.
if he stands on his toes all the time he might have a spine problem. take him to a specialist for an MRI or x-ray. the other things , maybe he's just five, or maybe he's a girl trapped in a boy's body.
