Are sneaker rollerskates a good gift for a 7 year old boy?

I'm really having a hard time trying to think of gifts for my son this year. He has went skating a few times and likes it but is still scared. I thought maybe the sneaker skates would help him learn. What do you think?

Answer:
sneaker rollar skates are fun, but if he is just learning, you would be better off to give him a b-day party at the local rollar rink. they usually offer great party rates. he could practice skating and have fun, with the safety of the guard rail. my son also loves to rollar blade/skate. he started at age 3, he just wouldn't quit! the fischer-price ones offer levels of adjustment until he is ready to move up. the rollar sneakers are neat, but he won't have any less accidents, and probably have challenges like hills, if you get him those toosoon, he may not like them. but if you do, buy knee guards, elbow pads, as well as a helmet! HAPPY SKATING
Get real skates and make sure you also buy knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet.
I would surely say so. My 8 year old son, was extremely excited when he saw a pair. And, mentioned that he would like to have a pair.
Also, they are more balanced than regular roller blades and in line skates. Which makes them safer as well.
oh my golly I hate those things! I think they are unsafe! I hate when I'm in a store, and kids are rolling by you very fast on those things. I've even seen some kids roll right into things and fall in stores. Very dangerous. I can't believe people buy those things and let their kids were them in school/in stores/etc.
I just recently gave a pair to a nine year old at his birthday. He loved them. He was a little uncoordinated on them for quite a while, but I think it was because he was old enough to know that if he fell, it could hurt. (Hes a big baby).

I think its better to get those skate sneakers at a younger age so that they are less fearful and learn to use them faster. I have seen five, six, and seven year old kids running around stores with those things. I always thought they looked cool, but would know that i could never use em! lol

I forget what the kid kept calling the skates...Oh, Heelies!
well, it is kinda hard to decide, i mean you certainly don't want your son to be always on those Rollerblades and like some people mentioned you don't want to annoy some people so, yes you should get it for him, but don't let him go unsupervised when he has them on!
My step-son has a pair of sneaker rollerskates and loves them. Only problem is, when we go out in public, he isn't allowed wearing them which begins many, many fights. Reason behind this is: didn't pay attention and was skating and ran into a senior citizen and almost knocked him down. If you do get them, make sure he doesnt' wear them to stores. Gifts like that are for your personal home and personal yard not out in public.
It is a great gift idea but keep in mind a lot of places have banned them. It's terrible that my kids can't go places while wearing them especially after how excited they were when they got them and the money it costed for those heelies. The school,wal-mart,lowe's just to name a few will not let you in the store if your kid(s) have them on.
yes healys (sp) are the in thing now my five year is already asking for them...watch out though alot of schools won't allow them...
I think it would be a great idea as long as he has shown some interest in skating.. besides, if he doesn't like them, take them back.
sure! sounds great
No they are NOT good period. All they teach kids is how to be rude. They barrel through shopping malls, grocery stores etc with those things on and don't pay attention to people around them. IF you intend to FULLY supervise your son when he has them on the MAYBE they would be okay but in my expierence not many parents do.
