Is it natural for an 8 yr. old to get her period?
Answer:
It is rare but not unheard of. Some things to consider are hormonal imbalances and precocious puberty. The average age of menarche (the first periord) is 12-13. That age has been dropping over the years.
Concerns for early menarche can be an increased risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer, though the risk is only slightly increased. Also, early puberty can raise issues about bone development.
Your sister should surely see a pediatritian specializing in endocrinology. Keywords to research are:
Early menarche
Precocious puberty
Lupron
You are right to be concerned.
Yes its possible. Welcome to the club!
I got mine at 9 so yes it is possible to get it that young.
It is possible but it's rare.
Its not normal.
Everyone is different although this child is fairly young to be having her period. A major source for causes like this is diet. Especially one that consists mainly of processed foods.
i dont think its too bad. Ask a doctor. i know a few girls started theirs when they were 9 or 10...CHECK WITH A DOCTOR THOUGH if your not sure
wow thats young but still possible. Id go to the pediatrician for that one.
It is possible and quite normal. The average age of the onset of menstruation is 12 but it is also normal for girls to start menstruating as young as 8 or as old as 16.
My older sister started her period when she was 9 yrs old and she also started developing at the same time.It is possible and thankfully only a handful start that young...

it's called precocious puberty and it is possible. not unnatural at all but not very common. this website is very informative:

Just to be on the safe side, suggest a pediatrition see the child. It's not common, but not unheard of either.
It is unusual to start your periods at 8, but not unheard of, I would still take her to the GP to make sure there is nothing else going on.
oohhhhhh sucks to be her! and the one who got it at 9!! i got mine at 10 and that was bad enough! it's hard to think about it aye! period equals able to have a child.. 8year old able to have a child?? i have to admit that as possible as it is it does sound impossible.. i don't think i was even thinking about having children when i got mine at ten lol.. scary though huh!!
i am not a doctor but I witnessed these normally from where I come form ( Egypt ) they say warm weather countries normally girls get their period very early...I had my friend when I was in grade 4 or 5 had it and my best friend she had it when she was 9...so i think it is very normal but if you still in doubt consult a doctor...good luck
It could be that your sister's daughter is just developing early. It has been known to happen. There is another scarier prospect however. It could be that the food she eats and the products she uses everday could contribute to this. I've heard stories of young boys reaching puberty early - around this age in fact - from eating beef in which there was too much testosterone. This was caused from the diet the cows were eating. If you are really worried I would suggest consulting a doctor.
yes it is young but very possible.your best bet would be to call her doctor.
Seems a little early to me, but it also seems kids are growing up much faster these days.
The average age of a girl at her first period has been steadily decreasing over the past years. It is due to increased nutrition, and some people say the hormones in our food. Whatever the case, it is normal and she is just an early bloomer. It is kind of freaky though that girls keep getting younger and younger.
Yes, it is possible, a friends little girl started at 7, it's normal. Don't freak out! Poor thing!
yes anywhere from 8 years old and up they can get their period. Don't you remember sex education?
well the world record for this is 7 yrs 1 month.so your case is not very strange
Are you asking if it's possible or if it's normal? It may be possible, but doesn't sound normal. I'm no doctor, so I can't really say. But 8 IS a very very young age to get it. What is that? Like...3rd grade?! Good gosh. That sux.. to be in the third grade and have a period. Well anyway, are they sure that it's a period? Did they bring her to an gyno and have her checked? Hopefully not, but it could be something else. I don't know, but.. damn.. ok!
yes it is possible it is because she has an early puberty stage but take note check with your doctor too
It's not very normal but it does happen. Girls can get their period from anytime between 8-16.
It is possible..it's just early.
sure is possible! It can start as early as eight
Yes this is possible but it has to do with hormones, your sister needs to take her to see a doctor and make sure everything else is OK other wise, a child who starts their period early has some high risk factors. I mean a child that starts that early.
