How long should a boy's foreskin be?

Hi all. I was just curious to know from some of the mothers out there what the normal length of a 6 year old's foreskin should be. My son was not circumcised at birth and his foreskin seems a bit unsual in length. I would say it hangs 2-2.5 inches off of his gland. I have not gone to the pediatrician regarding this yet because I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Answer:
About 4-5 years ago, I babysat an 8 year old boy that was not circumcised. His foreskin extended probably 1.5 inches beyond his penis which was quite small, perhaps a half inch or so. Before I started, his mother told me that the child had some difficulty with rash and skin irritation. Bathing the child properly was the key. After giving him his bath, his mother showed me how to take a Q-Tip and use hydrogen peroxide and then baby oil to clean the boys penis and to keep his tender skin from being irritated. First take a Q-Tip dipped in hydrogen peroxide and insert it into the opening of the foreskin and gently swap the tip of the penis to clean it thoroughly. Next take a second Q-Tip dipped in baby oil and again gently swap the tip of the penis. This worked very well.. The family moved away and I'm not aware of any problems other that weren't manageable. .
no big deal not going to use it for years
Your lucky son has "growing room" so he will not be plagued by painful erections in his teen years like I was.

Here is a study that shows that men contimplating circumcision should be warned of possible loss of sensitivity before they can give informed consent for surgery.

Exerpts from the report:

Masood S, Patel HR, Himpson RC, Palmer JH, Mufti GR, Sheriff MK.

OBJECTIVES: Currently no consensus exists about the role of the foreskin or the effect circumcision has on penile sensitivity and overall sexual satisfaction. Our study assesses the effect of circumcision on sexually active men and the relative impact this may have on informed consent prior to surgery.

Penile sensation improved after circumcision in 38% (p = 0.01) but got worse in 18%, with the remainder having no change. Overall satisfaction was 61%.

CONCLUSIONS: Penile sensitivity had variable outcomes after circumcision. The poor outcome of circumcision considered by overall satisfaction rates suggests that when we circumcise men, these outcome data should be discussed during the informed consent process. 2005 S. Karger AG, Basel

One out of five men circumcised suffers loss of sensitivity and one out of three is not satisfied with the results, these are not very good odds. This damage is also likely when babies are circumcised but the problems will not be apparent for many years.

I would point out that while this study shows that adult men should be warned of the possibility of sensitivity loss before they can give "informed consent" to circumcision, there is no way that a newborn boy can give his informed consent to an elective procedure that has a greater than 1 in 5 chance of leaving him with an impaired sex-life.

His body. His choice.
Yeah, that's a bit long. Maybe it's like oversized clothes and he'll grow into it? No big deal, except cleanliness. Any urine that hangs around in the overhang will tend to create a nasty smell. While nobody should be sniffing around a 6 year olds crotch, the smell can easily become quite noticable from a distance.

Now urine is pretty clean as far as bacteria is concerned, bacteria does like nice warm dark places. Now you have a different odor (and infection) to deal with.

If you're not going to trim it, be sure he understands how to retract and wash. Probably wouldn't hurt to retract during urination, too. If it's too tight to retract, you might want to have it "loosened". Easiest way would be have him do stretching exercises (yeah, looks a lot like masturbation). This would ensure he can keep his foreskin intact rather than a doctor "adjusting" the length.
DEAR HAVE SOMETHING DONE FOR YOUR CHILD OTHER KIDS WILL BEGIN TO MAKE FUN OF HIM OK TAKE CARE
If you do not think it is that big of a deal why are you asking when you asked the same question two weeks ago.
To answer what is normal length.how long is a peice of string? what is normal is what he has.
It will be project a lot less when his penis is hard.

Congratulations on having a son with an intact penis.

Make sure you teach him to hold his penis at the glans and roll the skin back to clean the glans. But remember it won't come completely back off the glans until he's about 13.

Expect his penis to get hard if you help him clean it.
He is young, leave him be, better too much then too little circumcision should be the last chance option, and anyway when he is a bit older he can tell you want he wants, good luck god bless
