Unless you want to scar him for life and make him a mockery of his friends for years to come...11 year old boys do not want cute invitations to be associated with them in any way no matter how well intentioned.
They want superheros, guns, things that go boom or crawl in the dirt.
Find out his favourite TV show and get invites to go with.suggest same theme for cake...no cute plates either...that is just a waste of $.they'll be tossed in 10 minutes.

I would suggest you go on www.evite.com, they have fabulous ideas for all the ages.
You could put labels on CD's. Get a bunch of blank CD's and put a sticker label (or something like that) with all the invite info. You could put them in a CD case and give them to people.
Or if you want to go the traditional route, buy invitations with a theme like video games.
(I've never been an eleven-year old boy, so this is the best I can offer)
