How old are kids when they start to tell the time?

He can read pretty well, I think he's about 6, is this a good age to get him a watch?

Answer:
My daughter was taught in the classroom in 1st grade. She got two analog watches for Christmas and wears them everyday! Yes, both of them... we gave up asking.
Yeah kids usually start learning at about 6 and it can take until 9.
1st Grade is when my kids learned.
my son is 7 and in the first grade and knows digital and non digital time telling. it depends on when you, as the parent, or the teacher teaches him/her. he has had a watch before he knew how to tell time, now the watch can fulfill it's purpose!

My daughter got her first watch (with a clock on it, not digital) at age 6. She loved it, and wore it everyday.
My daughter just turned 5 and she can tell time.
Absolutely.
We teach kids to tell time in first grade (6-7 years old.) Of course, some already know how since parents work with them at home. Some kids take longer to learn than others, but a watch is great. Eventually he will learn, when he does the watch will be there to reinforce it.
I think it's the perfect time. My kids started learning in school in 1st grade. Good luck!
My niece is 4 and she can tell time and has been for a year. I guess it just depends on the child.
well every kid learns differently, my son is 4 and can read hours/half hours. Reading the basics of aa clock is pretty simple. It gets more complicated when you get into individual minutes and counting by 5's, generally kidnergarten/first grade are when they start to learn to tell time so go ahead and get him one. :)
He could read a watch esp since all of them are digital now.
Yes! My 6 year old son just got a watch for Christmas and he can now tell time. We had started a little before that. You could accompany it with an age appropriate workbook for how to tell time.
yes, this is around the normal age for kids. i think it would be a good ldea to get him a watch. hope this helps. good luck.
yes get him a watch he will love it
you might want to give him a digital watch at first. i started the time unit in firs grade
Yes, right now would be the perfect age. My daughter is 6 and is in kindergarten. She is starting to learn how to tell time this year.
my daughter is 7yrs and in 1st grade she started to learn how to tell time at the begining of the school year and is pretty good at it now she still needs a little help every now and then but she has the basics down she just got a watch for her birthday and wont go anywhere without it
it does not matter its weather your kids actully know the numbers on the clock
Very good time to start.
My son is in Kindergarten and has two watches. They are learning about telling time in school. The watch helps him learn and he thinks it is "really awesome, like a grown up"!
my daughter was 2 when she learned...but remember all kids learn at their own pace.
