What should be the healthy diet of a 11 month old baby?
Whats your options? Should he be getting cups of juices?
Answer:
According to FL DCF (Department of Children and Families), he should be able to eat soft foods and ground or finely chopped foods. (A serving for a child is one tablespoon.) You should try to introduce him to one new food at a time so you know what food is causing him to puke. Also, juices should be 100% as someone has already said, but maybe you should try to water it down for him until his stomach gets used to it or you could give him 4 oz of the infant juices. It's ok to give him formula, about 24-32 oz. (Also like someone else had recommended) You should try to give him a little milk (the liquid not the dehydrated stuff). He should be able to drink at least a cup (recommended age for a cup of milk is about 8-12 months).
The child should be given a lot more real food than baby food. The more they develope the more they can digest and the more they NEED to digest. You should always consult the childs doctor before giving him certain juices. Some may upset his stomach.
Why not table food within reason? Some juice isn't too bad if it's the 100% natural juice, but I would stay away from shelf juices which contain way too much sugar. at 11 months old that baby is okay with 2-3 bottles but I don't think it needs to be formula. Have you tried his tolerance for milk? 2-3 milk bottles, maybe a juice and hey let's not forget WATER.
****ADDITION:**** if he is vomiting you need to seek the advice of your pediatrician. He could have a gastroenshopogeal (sp:) (acid reflux) problem that needs to be looked at. Consult your pediatrician.
I think that an 11 month old is fine eating stage 3 baby food, and every few days or so try to give him some table food like mashed potatoes, bread, crackers, mashed up bananas. If he pukes it up wait a few more days before he tries something else. You should give him no more than 4 ounces of 100% fruit juice per day. 2-3 bottles of formula is good if he is eating 3 meals a day. You dont have to introduce cows milk until he is at least 12 months old. But some babies may take longer to adapt to it b/c it is hard on their tummys. You should also be giving him a sippy cup during the day and limiting bottles as he gets older.
