Breast feeding and pain !! HELPPPP?

ishe is about to give up on breastfeeding, the baby is 4 days old and she says she is in deep pain. her nipples cracking ect, whats an ointment you can use to help this ? or any other suggestions to my daughter would help...

Answer:
I had the same problem with my first child. He did not latch on properly and it caused me a great deal of pain. I think everyone's nipples get cracked and dry. That Lasolin cream is excellant. It really helps with the cracking. She can probably get some from her pediatrician, the hospital, or from a lactation consultant. Also, someone once told me it was good to rub a little bit of your breast milk on your nipples. I have never tried it though, but my sister tried it and claims that it works.
I don't know if you have a program like this in your area, but we have something called the Visitin Nurses. They have lactation consultants and whatnot. They gave me this plastic thing that was shaped like a nipple. All you have to do is wet it a little bit with water and stick it on your nipple. It actually feels like a real nipple to the baby and makes your nipple bigger. This helps them to learn the right way to latch on without causing the mother so much pain. I used one and a couple weeks after, my son had finally figured out the correct way to latch on and I didn't need it anymore.
consult a lactation expert, baby might not be latching on properly.
And dont give up, i was in pain, cracked and bleeding for 2 weeks, but in the long run it is worth it, not only for health but the bonding is incredible
lansolin ointment and it really works. Gosh i know how she feels. Between the milk coming in and the cracked nipples it totally sucks! But hang in their and use the ointment.!
i was in pain for 2 weeks, but I'm so glad i didn't give up. the best thing i found to help with the cracked nipples was my own milk! when my baby was done eating, i expressed a little milk and rubbed it on my nipples, then let them air dry. breast milk has some AMAZING healing properties.
