LEEP procedure...help?
Answer:
I know your nervous, but it is relatively simple as far as pain and recovery. You will go in and undress and up in stirrups. They will clean your cervix with betadine. They wil then place a clamp on your cervix, this will feel like a slight cramp but will go away. The doc may redo the colposcopy before the LEEP to reconfirm borders. The actually procedure is very quick. The electrosurgical unit clots any bleeding while it cuts away the abnormal tissue. It may cramp just a little but that's about it. After you will have a little increase in discharge as your cervix heals and you need to not put anything in your vagina for atleast 4-6 weeks. You shouldn't really have much discomfort afterwards, unless you are cramping and advil, ibuprofen, motrin does the trick very well. No douching, sex, anything, while you heal.
After that you will need to have regular pap smears. Most the time the HPV will go into remission once the area is treated but you have to be vigilant about your pap smears in the future because there are no guarantees. Make sure to use condoms if you change sex partners, but if you are in a monogomous relationship then you should be fine. Men are only carriers of HPV except for the strains that cause the external genital warts.
Good luck and I wish you well!
I had it done it was a day surgery so I was under anesthetic. It was painless.four years later I had my first baby and there were no complications. I also had a cone biopsy done two years ago which is what they needed to do to remove all teh cancer cells because a leep only burns the cells off the cervix wheras a cone biopsy will remove part of the cervix. they say the treatment of both makes the chances of having cancer very very slim. It is not recommended to get pregnant for a year afterwards so the area can heal. The complications are minimal and it is painless afterwards. You just need to abstain from sex for six weeks after and watch for intense bleeding which is not a very common complication. My cervix was long and narrow and I had no issue of it becoming incompetent after two procedures not one.
I had this done when I was 18. It really doesn't hurt. They use a big needle to help numb the area, so all you really feel is a little pressure. You will have some bleeding and some cramping. It will feel kinda like a period, but within a day or two you won't be able to tell you had it. Just make sure to take it kinda easy the first day. Good luck, and hope all goes well.
I had it done a year ago. It doesn't really hurt but it is uncomfortable. When the freezing goes in you get a fuzzy feeling in your head and all you taste is metal. The procedure only takes about twenty minutes. You might feel a little achy after the freezing comes out. Good luck, don't let it freak you out. It's not that bad.
i had this done 5 years ago and the day of the surgery i was fine because of the anestesia but the next day is when i felt cramping and bleeding. best to plan to lay in bed that day. the doctor also told me to have someone to drive me home from the hospital so you might want to plan on that. they may give you mild painkillers but if not ibuprofen will help with the cramps just like a period. it does sometimes cause scarring on your cervix. i just had my first child and they think that the scar tissue did not allow my cervix to dilate. they induced many, many contractions and it still wouldn't happen. i had to have a c-section but no big deal. just so you know.
I had the LEEP procedure done a week ago. I actually chose to be put under during the procedure b/c I didn't want to smell flesh burning or feel the shot in my cervix. When I awoke I didn't have any pain and never really have had much pain but just some mild cramping. I also haven't had any bleeding. This procedure will heal as a burn wound. Therefore you will have some nasty mucus to deal with about 5 days after the procedure. Remember, these are very common amongst women and it's great to catch it early.
