When does a baby get/grow a heart?
Answer:
A baby's heart beats for the first time at 21 days after conception, which is about 5 weeks into pregnancy. Remember doctors calculate your weeks in pregnancy from your last period. It is commonly thought that women ovulate 14 days from the start of the next period, which on a regular 28 day cycle is 1 week after the previous period. So the acutal age of the child when the heart is detected is just 21 days old, amazing isn't it? But in circumstances when women have a longer, or irratic cycle, it is often difficult to go by dates, so remember to give or take a few days or so. Your doctor will help you figure it all out and will inform you of how the babys development is comming along.
I think it is amazing how much activity goes on in the first crucial weeks of pregnancy and wish I had persued a career in this section.
