What is your opinion of those seats sold in target to teach babies how to sit?
Answer:
I'm a bumbo lover too! My son loves to sit up on your lap so we got him one for Christmas, he is 3 months old.
He will only sit for about 15 minutes though before his neck gets tired.I would not listen to all of the answers attacking people who use the seats, i know a lot of women who swear by these wonderful inventions, NOT because they are lazy or don't want to teach their child on theiir own, but because BABIES LOVE them, and with the bumbo you can sit your baby up to play with them facing you instead of facing out.
I would definitely buy one!
I love the Bumbo! My daughter is 8 weeks and has been in her's since 5 weeks and she sits so well and her neck control is great because of it!! Its helped her so much more than tummy time did with our son.
You can get a cheaper version of it at Walmart called the Bebe Pod...exact same thing only cheaper and different name.
Personally, I think it is ridiculous. Parents are too lazy these days with all the gadgets and gizmos that are out there designed to teach your kids instead of you teaching teaching them what they need to know. I'm not talking about you, but parents in general. Kids need that one on one time with their parents, not video games, and what not. Kids have been learning to sit for centuries without this seat and they've been doing just fine.
I used my boppy pillow to help her learn to sit, and it worked just as well for me. I don't have any experience with the seat, but if you have the pillow left from nursing or anything I'd suggest trying it :)
Babies develop at their own rates. Babies need floor time and opportunites to explore their own development. Learning to sit is a process. If your child doesn't go through the process, then they will not be confident in their abilities. If you buy gadgets like these don't rely on it to teach your child how to sit. Your baby will eventually develop their muscle strength and learn how to roll over, get up on all fours, push themselves to a side, and sit up on their own.
i love my bumbo. its well worth the investment!! get one!!
It depends-- if your child has always been great with keeping his/her head up, your child probably won't need it. The Boppy, as mentioned previously, worked for me, as well as supporting your baby and holding his/her hands while they sit on a soft surface, because my baby always had head control. If your child needs to work on his/her musculature while learning to sit, go for it! A parent can only be there 100% so much of the time and any assistance is welcome! Just because you are using a tool doesn't mean you are a negligent parent-- it just means that you are using all the resources available to raise your child to be the wonderful person he or she will definitely be!
I had a bumbo for my son, he absolutely loved it. When he started eating solids we used it as a mini highchair.
My opinion is that people will sell anything to make a buck!
If you really want your bay to build up strength for sitting, then give her plenty of playtime on her belly.
i think they are great and plan on getting one for my daughter - she is 5 weeks - for the same reasons, somewhere safe for her to sit and be played with.
the highchair idea is good too
The bumbo seat is great my daughter had trouble sitting on her own now that she can sit all on her own she loves to play with it. she climbs on it and throws her toys in it and i dont have to worry about her hitting her head on it because its foam. but dont leave him in there to long. 10 min max. it made my daughters legs turn blue after 10 min. floor time is important too though.
Loved my Bumbo!
I just got one for my 3 month old daughter for Christmas. She loves it. I bought her another one for daycare. I say they are worth the money. I don't use mine to help strengthen her muscles or anything. I just know that she like sitting up and looking around and so I thought she would enjoy her new view of her little world. She sat in it while we opened the rest of her Christmas presents. They are around $39, but I have also seen that walmart has a cheaper version.
I love love love my bumbo. My daughter loves to be sitting up it. I can cook with both hands now, and blow dry my hair!
i love it, i didnt purchase to help my baby learn, i bought it because my baby does not like being in a laying position, she has a vibrating rocker chair and she hates it because she is leaning back. with the bumbo she is happy because she can sit up and play with her toys without leaning back
