Does anyone have any other ideas as to what to use for white noise to calm my baby?
Answer:
When WinMX was legal, I was able to find many mp3 files of rainstorms and the ocean. The files were called "Sounds of Nature" and each had a specific decription such as "Sounds of Nature Wind chimes.mp3" etc.. I found one of ocean sounds and it really sounded authentic and it was like 45 meg so it was pretty long. Plus, you can set Windows media player or other players on your computer to keep repeating the play of the file so the file can go on forever. These files really relaxed my mind. I bet it's possible to find some mp3's like these whether they are free or a buck a peice or whatever.
Hope this helps.

If you have a fan in your bathroom that is good or the vaccum
The sound of running water always helped my son out as an infant. Maybe you can find a clip of that online? Try the real thing first. It saved me most days!
what about a exhaust fan in your kitchen, for your stove? that should work, or try running water in your shower, doesn't have to be warm, just keep cold water going. or if you are close, how about the dryer?
Vacuum cleaner, clothes dryer, hair dryer, or a radio tuned between stations to just play static.
You can also use a wind-up alarm clock, in which the "ticking" may soothe the baby. It sounds similar to your heartbeat.
LOL. Boy thats complex.
Try a simple box fan. Costs 9 bucks and runs for hours.
Thats what we sleep with. Its a horrible habit. My husband cant sleep without the noise anymore I ruined him, and I was born listening to it, so Ive never slept without a fan running.
But it certainly works.
I use a fan with my son.
You should place a small fan on a dresser or something so it blows gently in her direction. The noise from the fan is soothing and the cool air will put her to sleep.
I used the tv or radio tuned to a static channel. The noise worked wonders! I know folks who used a fan turned on high but aimed away from the baby's crib. Great noise blocker too.
A vacuum, a sound machine, a ticking clock, turn your radio to some soft classical music, a heartbeat bear (simulates womb sounds to comfort baby)
I quite like the sound of a fan going, its quite even and constant. Some people says the sounds of dishwashers and washing machines, but they have loud cycles which wouldn't be so good. Also some nature sounds are good, like ocean or rainforest.

Royalty free music with a section of nature sounds.
A humidifier-air purifier/something of that sort. I used a humidifier and it worked like a charm. It also helps during the winter time dry spells to keep moisture in the air. Helps breathing
Maybe try a small fan-pointing away from baby.
There are baby toys that play different sounds. The ocean or river sounds are kind of similar to white noise. Try a tape of one of those on repeat.
We have a sound machine that makes serveral types of sounds. It was fairly inexpensive and can be found at most department stores. Try target or walmart. It also has an adjustable volume.
I played classical music for my little boys... It calmed them down and put them right to sleep.
my daughter likes are celin fan if you have one or try to go to www.babycenter.com and see what they say.
They sell nature CD's at Wal Mart. That should work if the dryer does. How about a windup clock? I've used that for puppies before lol they are a lot alike. Try recording the dryer on a casette player maybe. I don't know what else that wouldn't keep me awake too. It's best to get them used to noise and quiet also, it is soooo hard when they won't sleep. I had one of those and swore she'd give me gray hair and wrinkles and she did lol but she is my rock too at 27. Good luck.
Oh! Like that? Ok. How about a blank channel on the t.v. They often have white noise on them, ya know, like a space for a pay channel that you haven't paid for.
How about taping a waterfall? Do you have anything like that in you're neighborhood, like something that runs below a street? Or by the tracks in the daytime?
Or, can you tape a running water facet? Can you get some kind of small fountain? Some of them are really nice, and they don't cost much. That would calm you, too.
Do you sing to you're baby? Or talk softly? I know that isn't white noise, but the sound of a Mother's voice is supposed to be very comforting. Of course, I bet you are probably already doing that, right?
And educates the baby! In a very gentle, loving way. Exercises baby's brain, gives the brain something to figure out! And do.
Babies love that. It is bonding with Mommy. There is no sweeter sound than a loving Mother's voice.
Ever watch a babies eyes and smile when a Mother does that? Lullabye...and Goodnight...
Our daughters are addicted to a fan that we have blowing outside of their room--it was placed there originally to keep the air flowing during the summer since our old house didn't have central air. They became so dependant on it that we just kept it around since it truly is a life saver for busy mornings when we didn't want to wake the baby!
I highly suggest trying this out, it worked like a charm! Good Luck :)
Buy a fan. The ones that keep you cool. You can get one for cheap. Just make sure it isn't blowing on the baby. We have one in each room for our 2 daughters, my baby son and ourselves.
