Can breastfeeding make you hold onto weight??

My son is 9 weeks old and Im not losing any weight..I am just stuck at 125 and want to weigh 110. I am eating right and excercizing and have been since he was 4 weeks old. What can I do to make this weight go away?? Could it be water weight?? I weighed 103 when I got pregnant and weighed 145 when I delivered..a weight gain of 42 pounds but I was under weight so the docs said it was okay. Can anyone HELP?

Breastfeeding is supposed to help you loose weight. Are you stressed about the new baby? As stress can affect your metabolism and make your store water and extra weight. If your doing all the right things though your body should get back into shape in no time.
I don't know the answer, but I do know that breastfeeding your baby for the first year is the best option for the baby. Thank you for putting his needs first.
If you are eating more than calories than you require then yes. You only need a few hundred more for nursing. I know that weight watchers has a program for nursing moms. I am going on it after this one. Good luck

you have lost a lot of weight. maybe that is the weight you should be! you are a healthy weight, possibly underweight! breast feeding helps you lose weight. my mom weighed 106 before her kids and 2 weeks after the babies were born she was back down to 106. all because of breastfeeding lol. it is the best for you and your baby boy!!!!
Honey sorry to break it to you but A. Breastfeeding is probably why you are what you weigh now because breast feeding burns calories and B. It takes time to lose the baby weight. Just think, it took you what 9 months to gain your 42 lbs, don't worry about it that much, you will lose your weight just give it time. You lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks, I think you are off to a great start. It took me a whole year to get back to my original weight after my son was born!!
Breastfeeding is actually supposed to help you lose weight. Are you on the pill? Sometimes that will do it. If not, maybe you should get your thyroid checked. Your hormomes might still be out of whack. It's only been 9 weeks. Try low carb and make sure you are doing cardio and focusing on the areas that need the most work.
Give yourself some time, you just had your baby! You will lose the weight as long as you are eating right and exercising. Sometimes our bodies hit a weight plateau, like taking a rest. Plus, you need to realize your body won't be quite the same as it was before you had the baby. Good Luck
They say that usually breastfeeding moms loose a lot of their baby weight quicker than formula feeding moms but they get stuck with the last 10 lbs or so and can't get them off.

No, your priority right now is not weight loss but eating healthy and getting enough nourishment for you and that baby. What the baby needs it gets from you. Exercising and being active is the best thing you can do right now. You can get the few lbs. off in a few months when you aren't so under the gun as far as the baby goes. you are fine and mothers that nurse are supposed to be healthy not skinny. Sorry but that is the truth. Good luck to you in about 6 mos. that weight will roll off when the baby is letting you go and the baby will be healthy,that's the goal.
Breastfeeding can make you hold onto more water because you need it to make milk. Don't believe everyone who says the magic ticket to weightloss is breastfeeding because in order to produce a good supply you need to eat extra and drink more fluids.

Please... try to minimize the obsessing about weight gain. He is only 9 weeks old. It takes most moms more than that to lose the weight. Enjoy your child. They grow too fast.
Same here, stuck 15 pounds heavier and my breastfed baby is 5 months. A friend told me breastfeeding helped her lose weight but only after 6 months. Another breastfeeding friend is already thinner than before pregnancy, after 5 months. It depends I guess. They say it takes 9 months to get the weight, 9 months to lose it...
actually if you had not breastfed him you might not have lost that much weight. It helps you lose the weight faster. give it time and excersize and you should lose. Gee wish I weighed 125 again.

you will hold on to about 5 or 10 pounds all in your boobs though. my son is 9 weeks old too and i have 20 more pounds to loose to don't worry it will come off slowly and than it will stay off. just think 5 more pounds and your pants should fit! good luck!

Your baby is only 9 wks old. Give your body time to recooperate. Breastfeeding does hold on weight. I weighted 110lbs before I had my daughter and now weigh 125lbs. She is 8 mos. old. I too work out and eat healthy. I think it just stays on and you can't starve yourself when your breastfeed ( not that you should starve yourself anyway) so just enjoy breastfeeding while your doing it and quit worrying about what you weight. If your taking care of yourself then I am sure you look fine anyways. Breastfeeding your baby is the most important thing. It flies by so fast so enjoy the moment and worry about the weight when your done. Hopefully you plan on doing it for as long as you can and don't stop sooner just because you want to lose the weight faster. Live in the moment. It is truly the most gratifying experience to be able to bond with your baby that closely. It's also nice to not have to get up in the middle of the night to make bottles. All you have to do is lay your baby beside you and relax. With a gift like that who cares about 10 or 15 extra lbs.
You sound exactly how I was. I've had 2 kids and your hunch is exactly right. Breastfeeding does make you hold onto weight! It's natures way of making sure your milk supply stays up, and you probably crave extra calories. People say it helps you lose weight, that is true for about the first 10-15 lbs. They don't tell you that you cannot get back to your pre-pregnancy weight until your done nursing. But then again, you only delivered 9 weeks ago..so be patient. Take advantage of this time you can focus on the baby's health, nurse, and so eat whatever you want!
Relax, your baby is ONLY 9 weeks old. It will take a long time to lose all of the weight, and in reality that may never happen. Unless you're extremely short 125 is not heavy anyway. You're not supposed to lose more than 1 pound a week while nursing an infant.
Girl, you just had a baby 9 weeks ago. Your body is developing slowly now. Don't rush or its gonna get mixed signals. I had my baby 4 months ago and my body is still recovering. My mom told me that may take up to a year for the body to be to its normal standards.Don't worry. i bet u look fine.
