Answer:
From my own personal experience, a couple of tips...

A high chair that can recline is great. It's very helpful when feeding a younger baby who is still learning to support herself properly.

Adjustable height is another wonderful feature. Now that our daughter is older, we have ditched the tray altogether and moved the chair down to the table's height so she can eat at the dinner table with us.

Finally, I recommend geting one with as few crevices as possible. Scraping crumps and goop out of all those tiny areas with a toothpick sure gets old after the first 1,000 times!

As for brand, I have a Graco chair. It didn't break the bank and I love it. The following link isn't exactly what we have, but it's close:

Fisher Price
it really depends on your baby. my two older kids loved swings but my youngest tries to climb out literally leaning over til she cant get back up. the swing with the "aqua" marine theme is good with the fish and the soft music. thats what i used for mine and the ones that stayed still loved it. for the high chair i think mine is costco. just make sure its easy to clean like the liner can come on and off easily to wash. also mine has two trays that lock onto each other which is great if you dont get around to cleaning the first one before the next meal. just pop off the top one and you have a clean spot for the baby to eat. Good luck. also try your baby used places like once upon a child (if in you area) they have great used swings for good prices. most are in good condition.
Graco and Evenflo are really great brands to get.safety 1st and fisher price are great too. You won't get much use out of the high chair until your baby can sit unsupported. Until they can do that I suggest a seat called a bumbo. They sell them at Target or onestepahead.com. For a 6 month old if you have the space, i recommend the Jumperoo made by Fisher Price. They are a really great thing to have and can be used longer than a swing.
If you can only buy one. I would buy a swing chair. Before I got a high chair I would feed my grandson in his swing chair without the motion. Worked just fine. Graco has good brands.
