Is it normal for a 5wk old baby to have a bowel movement once a day or sometimes every 2 days?

Answer:
yes very normal!! Once they start eating more and start solids it will increase to a few times a day.
If your baby is breatfed then it is completely normal. A breastfed baby can go 17 days without a bowel movement. If your baby is on formula it can still happen. As long as your baby doesn't go 3 days without one you are fine. When it gets to that point call your pediatrician to have your baby checked out.
No this is not normal. It is a sign of dehydration and the baby needs more fluids.
If the baby is constipated then add .5tps of dark Karo syrup to 4oz. of formula or breast milk.

This was told to me by her pediatrician.

My daughter was like this when she was a baby and she is 19 now.
yes
Check with your ped.
Our daughter didn't have a BM every day. finally at 3 Yrs. I spoke to her doctor about the problem. She would only go every three day and it was very uncomfortable for her. We found out that she had a problem. She has know been on Rx Laxative for about 7 months. She is finally potty-trained. Please keep an eye on it and talk to the Ped.
Yes it is normal. It also depends on if the baby is bottle fed or breast fed. Some babies go a few times a day and others don't go as often. I asked the doctor the same question and they told me that as long as the baby is getting plenty of fluids then it fine.
My daugther was the same way, still is. She is 5 months old, sometimes she goes once a day, sometimes she misses a day. The doctor said its perfectly normal, especially when they get into eating food, rice cereal and other, they will begin to change their movements again. As long as your baby isn't showing signs of consitipation, then your fine. You can do leg exercises with your baby, move the legs as if they were riding a bicycle. I did this throughout the day and it just helps them, especially if they are a bit consitipated.
I don't know if it's "normal" or not. What is normal for one baby, isn't for the next. Best thing you can do is bring it up with the doctor! Good luck!
Yes...at this age it goes for formula as well as breastfed babies.breastfed babies, by the time they are 3 months old.sometimes only go once a WEEK! Formula fed babies tend to go once a day right on through.but everybodies different. As long as baby is still peeing plenty and appears content i dont think this indicates a problem.
