Thanks for answering mylast question. Next problem - My son doesn't want the sippy cup.?

Most people who answered my last question suggested I let him use a sippy cup. Problem is, I've tried that. He doesn't want it. But he does love cups. So, what should I do? I really want him to be able to do it himself, which is why I want him to use the sippy cup. But he prefers a cup. And he's not cordinated enough yet to drink from a cup byy himself, so you have to help him.

What should I do?

Answer:
i started when my kids where that age with the cup. that way they will be away from the bottle by the time they are off formula. i would keep the formula in the bottle, and milk in the sippy cup. he wont like to use it at first, but just keep giving it to him at lunch feedings or whenever its good for you. but make it a habit that he gets it at the same time. because if its at random times it makes it hard. hell know when to expect it. but i woud def try to get him used to it now, so that way you dont have to do it later. i just hate seeing older babies using bottles and pacifiers. good luck.
Everytime he's in his highchair eating, put the sippy cup on the tray with some diluted juice, water, or formula. He'll start out by playing with it, but eventually he'll start trying to drink out of it and will get the hang of it. Just keep offering it. Also, try one of the ones with the soft spouts. We bought one with a hard spot first and she wouldn't take it, then we switched to a soft spout and now she does great with it.
I went through the sippy cup nightmare, too. One day I took my son to a big baby store and he saw a Doreamon (It's a cat robot cartoon) sippy cup and wouldn't let go of it. Since then, I can't get him to use anything else. Maybe you could try taking your child shopping for a sippy cup.
Let him practice with a regular cup in the bathtub or outside. You will be surprise how fast he gets it.

Also try a straw. They make sippy cups with straws or you can just shove a straw into some regular sippy cups.
I didn't read your last question so I apologize if this has already been covered:

Have you tried the cups that have built in straws? My friends son is one and doesn't like sippy cups but loves these cups with straws. He is able to do it by himself and it seems to work really well. Here is a link so you know what I'm talking about!

Playtex makes them as well and they don't have characters on them, I buy them at target but couldn't find them online.
My son is 8 months and he also refuses the sippy cup. That behavior is normal ... But my baby's doctor suggested to keep trying.

Also buy this sippy cup:
Fun GripsĀ® Soft Starter Spill-proof Cup
From Gerber

It has two handles for easy grip and also a soft spout to ease transition from breast/bottle to sippy cup.
I had this problem with my son..I had bought cup after cup and he did not like any. I was suggested by another parent to take him to the store and let him pick out his own cup. Also, do not wait til you get home to start him with it..go to the bathroom and wash it out and let him him use it immediately. This way he knows it is his..reward him with praise words..GOOD LUCK!
