Help!! 4 week old baby with a cold< any suggestions?

any suggestions on what to do to make a 4 week old baby feel better with a cold, i also suspect that ge has a sore throat

Answer:
be sure to take him to the pediatrician to make sure that's what it is. use a humidifier in the room where he is the most, and in the room he sleeps in. this will help break up any congestion, and will help with the dry winter air. also get some saline drops for his nose. put a couple of drops in and suck out the snot. the saline helps break things up so it is easier to get the boogies out.

hope this helps
take him to a doctor
i have a 6 month old and when he was 5 months he had a very bad cold. Since he was under 6 months, the doctor said we could not give him anything... Saline nose drops/spray but otherwise he would just have to wait it out. I would still call your doctor though, especially if you think he/she may have a sore throat just to rule out anything else...
Take the baby to the doctor, you will need one of those little blue suction things to clear the nose.
If he has a fever over 101 call the doctor asap. Otherwise, try to keep up with fluids, rest, etc. Use a bulb syringe (nose sucker) to clear the nose as needed. Try a cool mist humidifier as needed.
Run a vaporizer that has some vick's in it. Give Tylenol for any fever and try to keep the baby well hydrated by pushing plenty of fluids such as pedialite. Definetly consult your pediatrician as well.
Take him to the Dr first. I used a humidifier in my baby's room. I also put a pillow under the top half of his crib mattress to elevate his head a bit. Give lotsa cuddles. It'll help! Good luck and sorry to hear about your little one.
Suction out his nose on a regular basis
Provide a cool-steam vaporizor (without the vapor inhalent additive)
Use a small amount of saline spray for his nose (Little Noses is a good brand)
My youngest had colds from the time he was born... he seemed to relax when I rubbed along the bridge of his nose, forehead, and cheeks, like where you have sinus pain (if you have sinus pain)
Resist Granny's insistance that he needs to be kept extra-warm -- it can make him uncomfortable. Keep him dressed in light layers that can be removed.
While his immune system is temporarily out-of-service, keep him away from other sick children
Give him extra cuddles and patience - we grownups can get moody when we're sick, he doesn't even have the means to know what is wrong or how to deal with it, and he doesn't really have much to keep his mind off it.
Play around and see if he seems most comfortable laying down or upright (if he's congested, laying down could actually make it a little harder for him to breathe), and act accordingly.
It's pretty early to try it, but you could try offering him some cool or lukewarm water to help soothe his throat, as well as checking with his doctor or a pharmacist about any kind of over-the-counter medication he could take to alleviate a cold.
i had my son to the hospital yesterday he had a cold and now he has rsv, the ER doctor told me that it is quite common this time of the year, he said all children get this when they have a cold, but it affects the younger babies and children that dont have a strong immune system like children with asthma or preemies etc. of course my son is a preemie so he has it, he said the younger babies are between 0months to 3or 4 months and it can turn serious, so if i was you i would take your baby to the dr.
my baby is 6 months and has a cold right now ijust put 3 drops of little noses saline drops and a vicks vaporaizerin his room that seems to work with my baby!!good luck!
As long as he has no fever and is feeding and sleeping well, all you can do is run a cool mist vaporizer in his room when he sleeps and use the bulb aspirator to suction out the mucus.

If he's got any fever over 100 degrees F, isn't feeding or sleeping well, he MUST see a doctor ASAP at his age. If he's wheezing or having ANY problems breathing (other than from a stuffy nose) - take him to the doctor ASAP.

Under 6 months of age, it's not a good plan to give any over the counter cold medications without seeing or speaking to the doctor first - only because OTC meds can mask other, more serious, symptoms.
