12 month old still isn't crawling or walking (he does roll and scoot).?
Answer:
Friends of mine had this exact same thing happen to them -- big, breastfed baby boy who rolled everywhere, even at twelve months. I wouldn't worry about it. Their "little" guy was perfectly healthy, and now, at fourteen months, he loves to hang on to adult hands and motor around like crazy -- walking on his own won't be far behind!
I've even heard of some babies skipping the crawling phase completely, and go right to walking. This baby's mother never did crawl; she rolled around, then started to walk. (Maybe it's genetic?) :)
I'd just shrug and not worry about it. It DOES happen to other families, and, personally, I kind of got a kick out of watching this little boy roll around everywhere. I thought it was neat. :)
Best of luck to ya!
If there's not a physical explanation, like ear problems, then he may just be a late developer in combination with his size. With breastfeeding, make sure he's getting plenty of time on the floor too. Good Luck!
I agree with the last post. Don't' worry too much. Since you have talked to your doctor about it. Just keep up with his appointments and keep the doctor posted. One of my good friends' little boys had stomach problems when he was born so he had to have an operation. because of how he always had to be laid his stomach muscles didn't strengthen like most children's so it took him a really long time to be able to roll over or sit up which then delayed everything else as well. Your child my be similar in that his muscles just are quite ready to support his big body. you could look into little games to do with him to strengthen his legs and torso that might help him along. Whether or not you do that in time he will walk.
My baby was 20lbs at 4 months, and 26lbs at 8. So not quite as big as yours, but still big (and tall). He wears 24months.
He started walking at 9 months (around the furniture). Two days later he started crawling (he could before but really wouldn't). The next day he took one step. Then a few days later 2 steps. After two weeks he could walk wherever he wanted, turning and whatnot.
However lots of babies dont walk at 1 year.
As long as he can get around well enough to suit him, he have no incentive to learn anything else. I think mine finally crawled because standing up he could see further and therefore want to get things further away. Before then he was happy just to roll from one side of the livingroom to the other(the short way). All his toys were there what else would he possibly want. *lol* Well the answer is EVERYTHING, the lamp, computer, mouse, keyboard, dvd player, vct, cords, plugs, books ALL of these things became reachable once he could get to standing.
So I wouldn't worry too much. You can gently encourage him to pull himself up using your hands and walk around using your hands. But ultimately he needs both the physical ability and the mental leap, then he will do it.
My daughter is currently 13 months and she didn't start crawling until 3 weeks before her first birthday. She began doing the army type crawl and is now crawling the right way and is pulling herself up and moving along the furniture. It's true not to worry, he will get there. Once he gets going there is no stopping them and he will be in everything.
