Ok.. So what is that stuff in the bottom of the humidifier?
Thanks!
Answer:
Do not put in bleach, would you want to breathe in bleach? I dont know whats up with people giving bad advice like that.
Bacteria from the water. You should put a little bleach in each time you fill the humidifier (like a tablespoon).
Is it a cool mist w/ a wic., That is water & air impurities. Even new furnace filters cant touch what we breath in not to mention composists in water. Hope that helped. ***Dont put bleach in you can purchase tablets but they really dont help the wic is for that, you dont want your baby breathing bleach
It's just minerals and junk from the water. Wipe everything out with white vinegar every once in a while, it will kill bacteria and dissolve any minerals. Be sure to replace the wick regularly.
Clean it with white vinegar and water once a week. It will eat at the gunk! DO NOT put bleach. You do not want your kids to breath in bleach! Good Luck! :)
I just wrote to say I found the same thing in mine today when my son was taking the lid off - ew. But, definately don't put bleach in there! There could be some bleach residue that will not only breathe in but also float on nearby objects.
Vinegar works great. My girlfriend says you can buy a humidifer cleaning disk at Target. I'm going there tomorrow to look for it.
I am not 100 percent sure but i think it is mold. Alot of the sites recommend cleaning the unit everyday and using distiled water in it. It may also be dust but if it feels slimey it is probably mold.
It's minerals! I just bought a humidifer and in the instruction booklet it actually tells you that this is a normal thing and just to clean it out with vinegar and water.. But I just rinse mine out with water and let it try and that does the trick.. its no big deal your not breathing that gunk in!
Do NOT use bleach...clean with water and white vinegar, maybe a little baking soda. Kaz makes a hmidifier & vaporizer treatment that keeps the humidifier water clean. You can find it where they have the humidifiers and vaporizers. Or ask the pharmacist.
