Why are baby formulas so expensive ?

Because they want you to breast feed like women were supposed to do.
they have lots of vits and iron in them and they are tested and tested and tested to make sure they are safe.
Because they are a luxury? Babys were ment to be feed from there mommies boobies.

Because its a needed product and they know that it has to be bought so they can charge a lot for it and people will still buy it. :)
Because babies are meant to be fed by their mothers. They try to discourage formula feeding unless there is a problem so they keep the prices high
I'm from New Zealand and travelled to USA when my son was 8 weeks old, so his grandparents (who are american) could meet him. I was shocked by the price of Formula there, its about 4 times what it costs here. I can but assume as its something theres no substitute for, they can charge what they like as it will still be bought.
And to all the " breast is best" and " babys should only be fed breast milk" people replying.sometimes you have NO CHOICE as to if you can breastfeed your baby. Personally, I got a DVT (blood clot) after having my son and the medication is the same stuff as is in RAT POISON...would you rather baby got that through my milk, or had formula?
Theres MANY reasons why people can't or won't breastfeed, and guess what? its THEIR choice. And they don't need do gooder hippies ramming their opinions down their throats.
