Sounds like someone didn't count right. The average newborn premie usually will be under 6#.there is the possibiity that the mother is a diabetic and those babies usually weigh in quite heavy...and then drastically lose it after birth.
Usually Premature babies are much smaller than that. Both my brother and myself were premature. My brother at 1 pound and me at 3. But then again this is a crazy world and stranger things have happened.
Premature means exactly that. It's impossible to have a baby at 8months and be 10lbs. If the baby was 10lbs, then the due date had to have been wrong. Which means that what was thought to be early was actually on time.
8 months is not premature. but 10 pounds is not normal either. maybe the child has some sork of developmental disorder. My moms friend had her baby at 39 weeks and he was 23 inches and weighed 12 pounds. every baby is differeny.
In the 1970's the dr's measured age by weight in babies. Lately in the last few years it has been admitted that premature babies can be quite large. Babies of mothers that have gestational diabetes can be 10 lbs + and still be premature.
But then again you know the old joke about first babies, Old neighbor ladies used to gossip and say that first babies you know, they can come at anytime, don't have to be 9 full months. They can be some big babies for premature ones.
Now I am NOT saying this is the case. Just the joke. :)
That 8 month old baby is not premature. It's close to full term. Yes it's possible in which case the mother would need an emergency C-Section because the baby is too big to be delivered naturally. Yes premature babies are born underweight.
