Teething Problems Maybe?

I have a gorgeous 4 month daughter who i've just about trained to sleep at approx set times in the evenings. She usually wakes only twice for feeds before nodding off again.
Lately, her gums are hard and she wakes up crying and trying to scratch her ear. Are these the signs for teething or is there a possibility that it is something else like maybe an ear infection?. Any advice would be great.

Hi - My little one got his first tooth at two and a half months and now has eleven. So I know a bit about this I think.

Are the gums swollen and can you see a white line appearing?

Normally a definate sign is dribbling and biting on things.

Our little one pulls his ear a lot when teething but one time we put this down to teething and it went on for a week and when we took him to the docs he had an ear infection. It is so hard to tell that I would get them checked just in case and for piece of mind for you.
Some babies start teething as young as three months, so it's a definite possibility. I'd take her to the doctor to be sure she doesn't have anything else going on. Usually teething comes along with a runny nose and light fever as well.
She could be teething. Try putting baby oragel on her gums, or letting her chew on a cool teething toy. The ear scratching is a sign of ear infection. I would suggest taking her to the doctor.
anything you are not sure of i would suggest getting the doctor to take a look - he can put your mind at rest if there is nothing to worry about - they would rather you did that than there be something wrong that you passed over

hope there is nothing wrong with her

Ear infection is most likely. Either that or she's objecting to the routine you've put her on. I'm sorry but I find the use of the word "trained" really objectionable.
Sounds like she could very well be teething. Bonjela is about the best thing for teething a small amount rubbed onto her gums at regular intervals (normally stated on the tube) if you have a teething ring for her give to her to chew. I used to put my childrens in the freezer so they had something cold and hard to chew on. If she gets a temperature which some babies do give her calpol. Lots of TLC nothing worse than toothache for any age.
Poor little lamb, good luck mum xx
Well first off, is she drooling excessively?? That is a sign of teething. But you should do this simple thing, look behind the childs ear, if there is a red line where the ear meets the head, that is a sure sign of ear infection. Do call your doctor & make an appt. to check though, if you are still unsure.
Its not uncommon for a baby to start teething at this age though. So, my favorite ideas for this are... Hylands natural teething tablets. Or home remedy is this... seep a decaf camomile tea bag in 8 oz. boiling water for only 1 min. Then divide into 2 8 oz bottles. Add water to it, to dilute it, as well as about an 1/8 tsp. of sugar. It will help naturally soothe the babys gums, and help her unwind!
Good luck!
Its more than likely teething i found the teething powders really good Boots do their brand and they are good
I know exactly what your going through as i have 4 daughters myself, the youngest are my twins at 18 months.
i totally agree with your routine that's the only way we get through. All my girls rubbed their ears through this stage the doctors all say its pretty common that teething can cause young ones to pick up infections but don't worry its easily sorted. We have all ways used calpol and loads of love works every time!
if the gums are hard there is a possibility of teething i mean some babies are born with teeth believe it or not and the thing about her scratching her ear does she also tug at it if so take her to the doctors but if your worried take her anyway
