After feeding my young baby (2 weeks) sounds like he is choking on his vomit. Is this normal?
Answer:
It sounds like he might have reflux. Its not normally dangerous, although you do need to keep an eye on it in case it gets worse. If your worried go back to the doctor or have a word with your health visitor. A lot of babies get it, but it usually goes by itself within a month or so.
maybe you should get a second opinion. that seems dangerous to me. good luck and congrats
You must listen to your doctor, not to strangers on the internet. If you are concerned, you should take the baby back to the doctor, or see another doctor. Don't take chances with his health.
if the doctor says its ok and you are still uncomfortable - get a second opinion
I would say to make sure you burp your baby after every feeding to make sure he's not swallowing air. Putting your baby on your shoulder may also help them spit up anything that may me choking him.
i would take him in to another doctor just to be safe.try holding him up straighter and make sure he is not eating to fast.good luck and God Bless
My first child used to scare me to death with the noises she would make. It was all normal. Listen to your doctor, if you get worried again call again. Eventually you will learn what is normal with your child. Don't hesitate to call your doctor though if you are worried though.
Ask your health visitor OR call the labour unit of the hospital where your sprog was born, and they will be able to put your mind at rest.
My daughter is 6 weeks old and sounds like a hedgehog when she's been feeding.
I must admit I think you're a bit odd - most people worry when their babies are not making any sound...!
Your son is merely snoring.
Good luck.
I would seek a different doctor. He may have acid reflux and it is quite dangerous.
My son does that too. I bottle feed and thought maybe the flow of the nipple was too fast. I don't think that's the problem. I just think they have a hard time swallowing while being held in certain positions. Try holding him more upright see if that helps. If not than I really do think its normal because my son chokes all the time!
Many babies spit up after a meal - they can drink too fast that causes gas and gurgles up the milk. The shallow breathing would make me nervous and I would be very careful to not lay the baby flat (I put a pillow under the mattress to give my littlest an slight incline for similar reasons).
I would think about what you are feeding her. Nursing is of course best for baby and some mothers have found goat's milk to be a better formula for baby bottles. We used Meyenberg powdered goat's milk and would dilute the mixed milk 50% with water for newborns, then as they got older we reduced the added water. Both of our girls thrived best on a combination of breast and goat's milk.
Blessings to you and your little one.
Peace!
Yes, listen to your doctor. I'm a mother/baby nurse and newborns do this sometimes, and although very scary sounding to a parent, it's normal. I've heard it explained to be kind of like a baby form of GERD.
sounds like reflux but go and see you Doctor at the 1st opportunity. If you are that worried then go to A & E. Seriously. Its better to be reasassured than leavin it to us lot on FeelBaby.com.
most babie's do this when they take in their food too fast , I seen this happen to mine several time's and it can be frightening and stressful for baby , I would give the baby a break after a few mins and wind him/her. It it continues then I would bring it to the attention of the doctor again, but if the doctor checked the baby over , I would not worry about it . baby will always bring back up some of his food ( not to much) .good luck
If you are in the UK:
What feed are you using?
Talk about your concerns to your Health Visitor as soon as possible.
Keep an eye on the possibility of cow's milk allergies if that is what you are using.
Try a smaller hole on the teat if you are bottle feeding and be prepared to spend more time on the feed.
Never accept medical advice off the internet! Call your Doctor if you are concerned about anything. Thats their job, they are the professionals.
It is probably reflux. My baby had the same thing for a long time. Carrying him in certain positions or using certain baby carriers made it worse. But as long as your baby is gaining weight appropriately and doesn't seem to be in pain it is fine and doesn't require medication. All medications have serious risks in infants and should only be used if they are very ill.
However my baby had it at least two or three times a day.
However, all that being said, if you believe something is wrong with your baby, if that little voice inside you says something isn't right. Keep looking for answers, either trying home remedies (like maybe burping more often, or certain positions after feeding) or by going to doctors. Or both.
I'm not an expert, but it sounds like it might be reflux?
Take him back to your doc, and if you're still not satisfied with his explanation, seek a second opinon.
after a feed lay the baby on his tummy over your knees with his head facing the floor, gently but firmly Pat his back if he has phlegm it will loosten it up, babys can't cough so it's hard for them to bring up anything on their chests.
