What should i feed my 14 week old baby??

my son is 14 weeks and he has been on first step milk, cow and gate. the past 2 weeks he is starting messing with his bottles and being sick alot. he is waking once in the night for a feed which he hasnt done since he was 7 weeks. today i have started giving him step up milk (he has 3oz-5oz bottles every 2 hours) on a faster teet, he seems more settled and happy on this. when do i start weaning him? i have some baby rice and rusks but the health visitor has told me to keep him on just milk until 6 months. is this right? everyone seems to say diffrent. was it strange my health visitor told me to keep him on first milk until 6 months??

Answer:
The milk may not be suiting him well. Its not making him full enough. Give him some rice, but make sure it isnt too thick. I started feeding my son at four months and he did fine. just be careful!
It's the best to breastfeed him or formula feeding until baby reaches 6 month old. It's safer not to introduce solid (fruit or cereal or juices) before 6. The best you can do is to ask baby's pediatrician. A baby 4 months old should drink an estimated of 5 to 6 bottles of formula a day, that is, a bottle every 3 to 4 hours, and the last bottle should be at around 10:30 to 11 pm until 5 or 6 am the next morning...that what my baby ate.
you should feed him some plain porridge.
Take note of your health visitor. A lot of people are weaning their kids too early and they think it great for a four month old to eat a sausage roll or whatever. Babies need milk and your health visitor will give you the best advice for your baby.
at 14 weeks that baby should be only drinking formula, 6 months start a little rice in it just enough to give it a filler, like a tablesPoon max in his formula (it should still go through a bottle niPPle if it dont it is tooo thick...if you want to give it to him the best time is after bath before bed dont do it with every bottle..this will start introducing solid foods to your child and helP him sleeP better at night...milk shouldnt come for at least 12 months of age
we have a 7 week old and our pediatrician told us no solids for at least 6 months, that includes baby rice, cereals etc. it sucks because he does wake during the night to feed but his little digestive system isnt developed enough to handle the solids. once your son gets around 6 months have your dr. let you know when to introduce solids and then thats when you can start weaning. good luck
i would just give him the formula, and try rice cereal mixed with formula not too much at first,a couple of teaspoons before bedtime bottle, this might help with sleeping, then at six months introduce fruits and vegetables, formula is the most important thing tho, babies tummys can't handle alot of solids, baby will let you know when they have had enough by turning head, sticking out tongue, never force feed, they know how much they need.relax and you will work out a good schedule, baby should have formula for at least a year, its best for them and has all the proper vitamins etc.to keep them healthy.
goodluck and enjoy baby, they grow so fast!
Only breastmilk or formula until 6 mos of age. Starting solids too early can cause allergies, diabetes and obesity. Their tummies are not ready to digest anything else until around 6 mos of age.
i know by government and heath guidelines it says 4-6 months is the earliest time to give your baby solids, but my nephew Arran was 10 weeks old, on 2nd stage milks and still rooting for more after 7oz of bottle. his mother took him to see her heath visitor and she advised that she started him on solids at 10 weeks, starting off with thinly mixed baby rice or rusk and gradually thickening it up to suit his needs. many people may not agree with this but this is the advice of a hv so consider it. i stared my son on baby rice at 3 months and a friend of mine started her children at 2 months and their digestive systems etc are completely healthy (touch wood). it really depends on your own individual child and i would seek advice off your hv. remember, the government guidelines are just that- GUIDELINES. Hope this helps, claire.
I am a mother of 3, and have heard all of it from the doctors and health advisors. I am letting you know that if you want you child to be satisfied and you want to get any sleep, feed the child some baby rice. I actually started putting rice in my oldest daughter's bottle when she was about a month old. Trust me, all of my kids are perfectly healthy, with the exception that my son has asthma but that has nothing to do with his diet. My children were all eating jar food by the time they were 3 months old, and table food by around 5 months old. I am not saying feed the child anything, just use your judgement. My son ate mashed potatoes everyday(thanks to his grandma)..I never had a problem with my children being hungry, and I got plenty of rest.
my little boy just turned 5 months and all he drinks is breast milk my Dr said to slowly introduce solids at 6 months , baby's tummy is fragile, and for their first year of life breast milk or formula should be their main food source, every thing else is secondary.

DO NOT WEAN HIM OFF OF MILK TILL AFTER HIS FIRST BIRTHDAY.BABY SHOULD BE ON REGULAR FORMULA NOT NEXT STEP FORMULA.

NEXT STEP FORMULA IS FOR AFTER THE FIRST YEAR IT HAS DIFFERENT NUTRIENTS THAN REGULAR FORMULA.
I have ten and eight year old boys. When my first was born, weaning began at 3 months for which he took to well, but then two years later when I had my second son, the weaning age was changed to four months. I weaned my second son at 3 months the same as my first and everything was ok. The only thing I would like to point out in case this is relevant, they were both reletively big babies one at 8pound11 and the other 7pound12 when born. I don't know if weight has anything to do with when to wean a baby. Good luck!
advice on baby care changes over the years as docs learn more.
the advice now is not to give any solids until 6 months as this is when a babys tummy can digest it easily.the other reason is starting solids to early can bring on food allergies.your midwife and doctor do know what they are talking about, people are always in such a rush to start feeding there baby because they think it will make them sleep longer.at the end of the day you need to do what you feel is right.
my daughter was happy with milk only untill she was 5 months.
He should be on first milk for six months because it has all the vitamins he needs as he won't be getting many from the small amount of food he will be eating. Change the brand of milk if he is not settled on cow and gate, but don't give follow on milk.
As for solids, it is advised to start weaning from 4 to 6 months. Bigger babies tend to wean sooner. The signs for when he is ready is when he looks interested when you are eating, waking in the night when he never used to and needing more ferequent bottles. I would wait a few more weeks before introducing solids, then I would start with baby rice for a week then add fruit or veg to it but only one new flavour every 3 days, if he has an allergy to something, then you will know what it is.
most health visitors will tell you to keep your baby on milk only for the first six months.i stated weaning my sone when he was 3 months, he is now 6 months and absolutely fine. if he needs solid food, and that is what he wants, then give him it. just keep it runny, and for now just stick to baby rice and fruit, stuff like blended banana, stewed apple, pears etc, but no citrus fruits untill he is 6 months.

what people say about staying on milk for 6 months is just government guidelines, if it is what he wants then let him. if he is feeding every 2 hours he is obviously not getting full enough, just make sure he has at least a pint of his usual milk a day
Im a mom to 3 my youngest now 14 weeks old and i have started feeding her mashed up Rusk or babyrice, its from 4 months onwards now, check on the boxes, go with your instincts.
Nothing but breastmilk or formala until at least 6 weeks old. Do not fall into the rice cereal trap. It's not meant for babies that young and can harm them in the long run.
they keep moving the goal post's on this one, give your baby a little baby rice before each bottle and see how he goes, i think a mother knows her own child best change his milk to a hungry baby type, at five months he shills be tasting finger food, do what your heart tells you.
health visitors go by the book, do what you feel is right. i put my son on baby rice at 10 weeks by 14 weeks he was eatin other pureed food not eats loads but is not over weight. do it in moderation
I personally would not feed him solids until six months or as near as possible to that age. Has baby been unwell in any way, maybe had a blocked nose? as this will affect his feeding. Be careful about which milk you give him, dont keep swapping and make sure the milk is for his age group as they are made to meet the needs of the specific age group. Speak to your health visitor again or see if you can see a different health visitor at the clinic for advice. Visit cow and gate website or other formula milk websites for advice and information.
Keep persevering with the mik for now as weaning is not advised until 6 months - my HV has said 5 months at the earliest. Have you tried offering larger feeds as my son was taking 6-7oz every 4 hours at this age.
Speak to your HV about him being sick too as this may make him seem hungrier. Hope it works out for you.
From 16 weeks on I started giving my little girl a few teaspoons of quite runny baby rice with her last bottle of the evening and found she settled better because she was full up. From four months you can start introducing baby rice, pureed fruit etc. If you pop in the chemists or supermarket and look at the jars of baby food it will tell you on there what age you can give them to your baby. Some are four months and some are six months, so make sure you check before you give your son anything.
Hello. Step Up infant milk formula is iron enriched and is suitable for babies who are more than six months old. You health visitor is correct. The closer that you can get to the six month mark before introducing solids the better it will be for your baby. Babies who are weaned too early may develop allergies like eczema and asthma in later life, Have you considered using a formula for the 'hungrier baby'? When you do begin weaning then a teaspoon of pure baby rice mixed with eight teaspoons of formula is sufficient for your baby. Remember to introduce savoury flavours like pureed vegetables, meat or fish before you introduce your baby to sweet flavours. Hope this helps.
