What electric breast pump would you recommend and why?
How often did you use it?
How long did you use it? or How long did it last?
How much did it cost?
How loud was it?
How efficient was it?
DO NOT ANSWER THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE ACTUALLY BOUGHT AND USED ONE, PLEASE!
Answer:
I used a Medela Pump-In-Style (PIS). I used it ALL THE TIME. I had a sick baby who was tube fed. So my PIS got a lot of use. About 8 times a day for the first 6 months, the 4 to 5 times the next 12. I used it for 18 months, then my sister used it for about 6 months. I paid about $250 for it, but that was 6 years ago.
I'm not sure how loud it was in relation to other pumps. You could definately hear it from the next room.
Over all I was extremely pleased with it.
Avent is simple mine is 11 years old and onto feeding its 12th baby. only one was mine thirty pounds in 1995.
very quiet i could use while on the phone we women are great at multi tasking. not at all time consuming I even put it in my hand bag and used to prevent leaks when not with baby.
Medela Pump and Style
I was a surrogate twice and I wan not nursing, but pumping instead. So I would say I used it every time my milk ejection reflax kicked in... every 2-4 hours.
When I had my own baby, I was mostly nursing, but would pump a couple of times a day for extra milk
It lasted for over 3 years, and I used it with two pregnancies.
I pumped for surrogacy babies for about 2-3 months
For my own babies 8 months.
$279 approx
Not too loud.
It was a great product to take with me anywhere. I even pumped in the car while someone else was driving.
It has ice packs and bottles, and a car adaptor, and a little cooler.
Its worth it
Medela Pump In style, it had many attachments but to be truth ful it was the best pump i could find and it stuill didnt do as good of a job as the baby so eventually i had less and less milk, try to breast feed when ever you can and then pump, for extra , the pump cost me 170 but i had a coupon and then i turned around and sold it on craigslist ... so no money was really spent
1. I used the Medela Mini Electric it also works on 2 AA batteries and it can be manual(single pump)Ibought it at walmart just outside of vancouver b.c.
2. I used it every 3 to 4 hours for 5 months 24/7,best friend is now using it
3. Canadian was $125
4. I could still watch tv sithout turning up the volume, baby sleeping beside me would not wake up
5. Worked like a charm,I tried the manual Avent was very hard on the hand and I tried the electric Firs years and it spit milk out of the motor
I'm so glad you asked this, because I was just about to ask the same thing! :-) I've heard Medela Pump in Style is the best, but I'm looking foward to all of the answers on here.
Just like everybody else has said the Medela Pump In Style they range in price of $250-$300 now days.
I got one and I tried to use it but I wasn't producing enough milk to keep doing it. So since I never used it really my sister in law now has it. I have heard they are the best for the price and they are so easy to use. If you get the electric one you can pump both breasts at the same time.
I am currently using a Medela Pump & Style (Double pump) and it is great! During the weekday I use it about 2 to 4 times a day. It varies depending on my babies feedings for that day. My baby will be 5 months on the 5th and I've been using since she was 4 days old. I plan on breastfeeding until she is 13 months. I think this pump is great for a full time working mom. It's quick and it gets the job done. I only pump for about 10 minutes at work and get anywhere from 6 to 7 ounces of milk. My baby only eats 6. It cost me 319.00 dollars, but it's come in quite handy. I use it in the car, it comes with batteries, and the regular plug in adapter. It's not loud! Nobody at work never knows where I am! Good luck to you. Breastfeeding is a great thing to think about even if it isn't for you.
Actually you can go to different store websites and they have ratings and feedback on the breastpumps thats what I did...and you'll be suprised to find out that alot of the more expensive ones have lower ratings and more negative feedback than the cheaper ones.I just borrowed one from our W.I.C program I had it for 2 months and it worked great it was an Avena brand..it was a loaner and they can renew your loan month to month all you have to do is call them.its free and it was the most comfortable one I came across (and its hospital grade). They also give you a manual one-handed pump yours to keep and I fell in love with it.The one that they gave me at the hospital (manual) sucked...you had to use both hands and my arms and hands would get so tired after 10 min and it would not pull very much out. Look around on the net though and you can see all the ratings and feedback..it really helps.and I hope I helped...good luck!Try target.com or Wal-Mart.com
I used the Medela single pump electric and absolutely loved it. I started out with the First years pump and it sucked. I paid about $70 for the Medela at babies r us. I used it at least once a day for about 6 months and it never failed. It has few parts and is easy to clean. It was very efficient - both sides were done in 15 minutes. It wasn't very loud either.
I used a breast pump by The First Years, and I bought it at babies r' us. i used it for 6 months with my first child 2 yrs ago, and i am due in 3 weeks, planning to use it again. it can be plugged in or battery powered. it is the only one i ever tried, and it worked really well for me. i used it probably every other day. It wasn't loud at all, but I don't have any other ones to compare it to. It is also really easy to clean. And I usually plugged it in, so the batteries I put in lasted the whole 6 months that i nursed. If you only want a single pump, which just takes a little bit longer than having two (but i think it would be easier to do one at a time), this one is great and very affordable!! here is a link for it at the babies r' us site:

it is only about $30, and well worth it! good luck with your new addition!
I'm a big fan of the Bailey Nurture 3. It costs about $115 and was wonderful! (Well, okay, maybe calling any pump wonderful is exaggerating. Let's just say it did the job well.)
It is a double electric pump. When my baby was a month to eight months old, I used it at least once a day, often twice. I used the same motor, which is the expensive part, for both of my children, and just replaced the tubing and collection parts for my second. (There was a five year gap between them, even, and it still worked with no problem.) As far as noise, I could pump in a room with a sleeping baby and my husband watching television...it wasn't silent, but not overly loud, either. When I went back to work, I sat on the floor with it in a teacher's bathroom, and no one commented on hearing it outside. (They wouldn't let me keep a chair in there, can you believe it?)
At the height of my bovine days, I could get 7 ounces in about 8 minutes. There were two levels of suction and it was not uncomfortable.
I hope this helps. The Lansinoh collection bags are also great!
I have an evenflo breast pump. I tried many variations and none worked properly. The evenflo is an electric pump, a battery operated pump as well as a manual pump. I can adjust the speeds and get it to mimick the sucking rythem of my baby. It comes with storage bottles as well. It iis the only pump that I found did work, and it is the most comfortable one as well.Hope this helps.
