Update on Problems feeding infant.?
Let me clarify, I am not putting cereal in her bottle, you are not suppose do that (according to my Dr.), I am trying to spoon feed her. And when I do bottle feed her formula I hold the bottle, that's common sense.
Also, she does fine with the cereal sometimes, and other times she just spits it out (sorry I didn't clarify in the 1st question). I was just wondering if other mothers had problems at first when introducing cereal.
She sees her Dr. next Wed. and I will be discussing the same things so I will update after that appointment.
Thanks you the replies so far!
Answer:
She will eventually get the hang of it. Infants have to learn by doing they have a natural tongue thrust action and this is why she seems to be spitting it out. She may also not be ready to eat solids yet, you could wait and try again in a couple of weeks. Also make the food very very thin this may help. Your Dr. can give you other ideas I'm sure. Good Luck
I didn't see your first question..however...babies spitting their cereal out is very common.it's a good sign that she doesn't want it.. Not unusual when they are first introduced. Hang in there!!
My son did this and he never really would eat the infant cereal. I mixed a little of the gerber fruit with the cereal and he took it better but still never really liked it. After a few weeks of this I started giving him fruit and veggies. He was fine.
It may just be as simple as that she doesn't want it or that she isn't ready for it yet. Give it a couple of weeks and try again. 4 months old is kind of early anyway.
Your infant is still relying on formula or breastmilk for most of his/her nutrition. I'm assuming your infant is six months or under since you are just starting solids. It's normal for them to spit the cereal out. It is a funny texture for them and they have to get used to it. It usually comes out and goes back in at first. Just keep going with it. Once you are adding veggies and fruits to the cereal it will have more taste to it and be more enjoyable. Right now you are getting your infant used to eating with a spoon and trying different textures. He/she doesn't need to eat a whole lot. In fact my daughter gets full on six to eight spoonfuls. She just started a few days ago and is six months.
My mom suggested, and I know many moms and pediatricians wouldn't like to hear this, putting a little tiny bit of salt to flavor it. Some people try sweets like juice, but I agreed with my mom, I don't want her to get hooked on sweets so early on, so I tried a little pinch of salt the second time and she seemed to like it better. The fourth time, this morning, I didn't use any and she did fine with it. Of course she still spits it out somewhat. The other thing is they are learning how to swallow another texture. Not only does it feel different in the mouth, but it doen't go down as easy.
i have a 5 month old who did the same thing try mixing the cereal with a little bit a baby food fruits & veggies no meat til the dr says so good luck!!
