My best friends baby has a birth defect...?

Her baby was born 3 weeks early and cant use her left leg at all! My friend loves her baby but is very upset about it all. I am so worried about her! Any suggestions?

Answer:
I know it must be hard to go through something like this, everyone wants a normal, healthy baby, but what is normal these days. My best friend has a child who is handicap, shes 12 years old now, and my friend does not treat her daugther any different then she would a healthy child, she loves her daughter unconditionally. Just accept the child as she is, and be happy that shes here and healthy. Who knows what the future holds she may be able to use her leg in the future. I know a lady who gave birth to twins and one was born with only one arm, doesn't mean she shouldn't love that child, you just love the child more for being here. Your friend has to accept the fact that nobody is perfect and her child is a gift from god and be blessed she had a daughter.
no matter what birth defects, that child is alive, and she is just like any other child born, just love her and don't even think about the birth defects and maybe when the child gets older things will get better and maybe some therapy good luck.
compliment the other good leg constantly.
do they know what is wrong with her? it could just be temporary nerve damage from birth or something.
I am so genuinely sorry to hear that. No clue what your alternatives are.
Theres always a chance that when the baby gets older it will be able to use it. My little cousin was born not able to use his left arm and hes 7 months old now and theres nothing at all wrong with his arm. But theres therapy and all kinds of stuff that can help her baby. And at least shes healthy..so tell her good luck with the baby.
Of course she's upset..she's worried about her precious baby girl. But, it will only become a hindrince if people let it become one. Hopefully with therapy, her leg will become functional. Quick story...my friends daughter was born with a cleft palate...she had her at the store one day and a lady came up to her and said, "don't worry, she'll be beautiful someday". She was SO upset, but when that baby smiled at her all she saw was her beautiful, healthey baby girl. Just be supportive to your friend and be glad she has a thriving baby girl! Good luck to you both!
Well I am sure the baby is seeing a specialist but in the next month to two she needs some support as her daughter should begin physical theropy, I know a lady whose daughters left leg was considered un usable due to nerve damage at birth, with help of intesive physical theropy she is now a year and a half and almost walking! Give her hope, faith & support
As her baby grows her paediatrician will monitor the leg and help with suggestions or improvements. I have four children and praise the Lord they are all healthy - but if any one of them were in an accident or had a horrible disease or something happen and they were disfigured or crippled it wouldn't change one minutest speck of my love for them. It may come right, it may not - but she has a beautiful healthy little gift from heaven and that is all that is important.
You have got a lot of good ideas coming from people. Start of with having the child go see a orthpedist he/she may just recomand pt but also may recomend a special brace to help her walk on that foot. If braceing is something the doctor belives might help the child walk on both feet the link below would probley be the brace the child will use. I use to work with a girl who was born with cp she uses braces to help her walk. Also this is something they should have done with me when I was younger I dont have problems walking I hyper extend both knees which has started to cause a lot of problems with my legs.
