I have a 4 month old who is slightly constipaded. what do i do?
Answer:
some people like karo syrup ..i don't because of the added sugar...but it works.. i use prune juice diluted about 50/50...and if you are feeding her try offering some prune food . goodluck...oh_hell
Feed your baby a little apple juice (baby type, not adult), but do not dilute.
A couple of ounces, and that sweetie will be right as rain!!
Give a couple of ounces of purified warm water.
My little one is a bit younger...we looked on the Internet and read a few books and tried a few things. The one that seemed to work was fluids...we tried a bit of water in a bottle and also watered down apple juice. Seemed to work.
I'd try giving your baby a little bit of white grape juice mixed with water. If you're nursing, make sure you're not eating gassy foods (like raw vegetables) and try nursing a bit more than usual. If it continues, call the doctor for advice. Infrequent bowel movements don't always mean the baby is constipated, so keep track of when you change a dirty diaper, how firm the stool is and how difficult it is for the baby to pass. Some babies only go once a day or even every other day, but you should check with your doctor to make sure that's normal for your baby.
give the baby a teaspoon of karo in the next bottle It always works for my son.
Why do you think baby is constipated? If this a breastfed baby...it is normal that they go sometimes all week with only ONE bowel movement! If this a bottle fed baby...i have no real answeres for you...maybe try a dlittle more 'tummy time' than average
Fill half of the bottle with water. Fill the other half wtih apple juice.
try giving your baby some prune juice. Some people will tell you to try apple but it doesn't work.
try watered down prune juice or go for warm water
Call your doctor's office. They will give you the answer over the phone. I don't doubt that others given the correct answer, but this is why you have a doctor.
First of all you should always check with your pediatrician before doing anything. With that being said what my ped recamended for our son is a little sugar water. 1sp sugar to 4 onces of water. He also said we could try a bottle of pedialyte. He said giving him one bottle of either one of those everyday would help keep him regular.
Good Luck
some people may disagree, but my baby's doc had me give my son prune juice from a dropper, about a half teaspoon. it gives them a cute pucker picture face for the baby book too LOL. my son has had constipation since birth and he is 2 now. it has always worked. also try leg exercises in a warm bath
A belly rub does wonders, to massage the well, you know. plus it feels wonderful, even for 560 month olds like me. But the kid will love it. I saw the first answer, about apple juice, which works, at four months they start getting strained foods yes? go heavier on the fruits and cereals. And juices. and don't forget the belly rubs.
It really depends on what makes you think he is constipated. Is he straining and crying when he has a bowel movement? Has it been several days since he's gone?
If he is breastfed, there's probably nothing to worry about. Exclusively breastfed babies can go quite a while without bowel movements and be just fine, but if he appears to be in pain or if he's not producing six or more wet diapers in a day, there could be something more wrong. If that's the case, I would call your pediatrician to see what they recommend.
If you formula feed, he could very well be constipated. The best thing to do is call your pediatrician. DO NOT offer extra water, juice, Karo syrup, solids, or any OTC constipation aids. He is too young for anything besides breastmilk or formula. Don't use any suppositories unless the doctor says it's ok.
Dark karo in the bottle works mix it with formula or whatever they eat out of a bottle. I found that I can't give my son staright juice. He has to have like 1 ml of juice to the rest water. Even that makes him poop non stop. Now my son goes once in the morning right after breakfast then he is done until the next day.
When a baby is constipated, you should first of all make sure they are getting loads of fluids, give him/her orange juice preferably fresh OJ, weetabix or oatmeal cereal with a little warm milk can also help.
This is the best trick though, when you see your baby trying to "do" the toilet in their nappy, take their nappy off, lie them on their back, gently grab both of their ankles and getly push both their legs up to meet their tummy, if you know what i mean. Dont push hard just really gently push both legs up at the same time and this aids the process.
That is what my DR told me to do when my baby wwas constipated, even now when she's on the toilet, and constipated, she'll get a small chair and put her feet up on it, this raises her legs in almost the same way and this helps her constipation, she's 9 now!
Put a little dark karo syrup in the bottle, does miracles.
A little prune juice or apple juice. Also, my son was very constipated once before when he was little and we bought a medicine called Little Tummies-Constipation.it was chocolate flavored and worked great.
GIVE KARO SYRUP MISSED WITH FORULA OR WATER IT WORKS INSTANTLY! MY BABY COULDN'T HAVE A BOWEL MOVEMENT NATURALLY AND I HAD TO GIVE HER LAXATIVES AND MYLANTA BUT THE KARO SYRUP WORKED BETTER THAN ANY THING!!!!
PUT A LITTLE KARO SYRUP IN THE BABY'S MILK TRUST ME THIS WILL HELP PUT AROUND A TEASPOON IN 4 OUNCES.
My daughter went through this.
You can try a little prune juice mixed in the babie's bottles. If taste is an issue you can add a little apple juice to it as well. Doesn't sound good to you or I but the doctor gave me the idea and it was the only way my daughter would drink it. It helped my daughter tremendously and it helped fast. once back to normal you can give a couple ounces of plain water in between feedings to help add hydration to the bowels. If this is a constant problem tell your doctor about it. I had to put my daughter on low iron formula for a while. When she was a bit older the doctor gave her a stool softening powder to mix in her drinks.
Good luck I hope things get back to normal quick I know how miserable this can be!
If he/she is breastfed it's normal to go a few days ... extra water to the mom can have a laxative effect.
I was told by my nurse to give the baby some water mixed with Karo Syrup. I've heard that you can try to give the baby some Chamomile tea. If that doesn't work, I would contact your doctor.
Call your Pedi's office.
My doctor recommended sitting my daughter in her baby tub in warm water mixed with baking soda for about 20 minutes (i don't remember exactly how much water and how much baking soda) but it worked. They said if it didn't work, I could get some infant suppository. and I haven't tried this one (never will) but my MIL can swear by inserting a tiny bit of soap into the back part!
go to the baby section of wal mart and get a little jar of prune apple juice, don't dilute it just wait a couple hors, you will see the results lol
Add an ounce of Karo Dark Syrup to each four ounces of formula.
We had a constipation problem at about 3 mo. I was told by the Dr. to give him 2 ounces of Pear Juice (baby kind) and 2 ounces of water mixed. That did not work so we were told to give him 2 ounces of warm water, that did the trick. Now he has to have a gentl formula, about 3 and half scoops and always made with warm water. For us warm water has helped. I did not know any better and I always gave him cold breast milk and or cold formula. My poor first born. Please ask your Dr. first, but this is what helps us.
try banana mashed it works for older children too
