Do all babies that are born premature have to stay in the hospital or go in a icubator?

Answer:
If born very small or has breathing difficulties the baby will be in an incubator. The incubator helps keep them warm whilst protecting them from bugs. It also allows the nurses to keep an eye on him for his breathing, something difficult to do if clothed.
Once the baby is able to maintain it's own body temperature it is allowed to go into a cot.

My son was a 24 weeker and graduated to a cot when he weighed 4lbs at 3 months old.
most of them do some of them dont the ones that do they need extra tlc
yes i would say if there born before 35weeks then yes becassue they wont weigh enough to go home and hey need to be watched closley.
37 weeks is considered full-term, so babies born at 37 weeks are pretty much ok, although they may be smaller.

My baby was born at 34 and a half weeks, and he was in an incubator for a couple of weeks. He was removed from the incubator the day before we brought him home. He was said to be a healthy premie, but because premies can have trouble drinking or may use too many calories up if they try to drink (and as a result lose weight because of all those calories they burned up) he was tube-fed from time to time during his stay in the hospital.

In his case the doctor wanted to know he was stabilized with regard to temperature and that he had had consistent increase in weight, even if it was small gain each day.

One doctor I had said if I went into labor before Week 34 I should not go to my community hospital and should instead get to a better hospital with more expertise/facilities, so babies born before 34 weeks would definitely require special care.

I don't know what percentage of babies born at 36 weeks would require some extra time in the hospital.

All babies go into an incubator for the first day, and just because a baby is in an incubator it doesn't necessarily mean they have tubes or other medical apparatus "hooked up".

I was amazed to have my premie taken out of the incubator suddenly one day and to be told we could bring him home the following day. To give you a reading on how long a stay a premie may need in an incubator, my son stayed in the hospital the two weeks after being born at 34 and a half weeks. As I said, though, he was a healthy premie with only the problem of needing to be able to drink better.
