Preemie's and CPAP machines... has anyone been there?
Answer:
I am the proud mommy of TWO preemies! Both are eight months apart, one was born @ 24wks gestation, He was on a CPAP machine for almost the full three months he was in the NICU. And my other son was born at 28 wks. gestation, he was on the CPAP for about a month. I remember all too well the anguish of having my babies in the hospital hooked up to the various machines (this was also 7-8 years ago, so I'm sure technology has come a long way). I was at a point in my life where I felt helpless, the only thing I had left was faith. My boys made it through and now they are 7 and 8 years old, and they are strong, healthy boys! I am so blessed. They did have a rough start and needed to be hospitalized in the NICU for several months, and the first few years were rough, they required early intervention. If you have any other questions, I believe my profile allows e-mails, so feel free to ask. You and your precious baby girl will be in my prayers, be blessed and honey, have faith.
My son was born at 24 weeks. He too did not seem to want to be without the aid of CPAP. It was found that he had floppy airways and without the pressure from the CPAP his airway would collapse.
We were warned that he would most likely be on CPAP for 2 years till his airway strengthend. However, he proved them wrong and managed to kick the habit at 7 months old.
This is only a small likelihood however. You have to remember that your daughter is still very tiny and she will do everything in her own time.
