What to do for baby congestion?

Answer:
There are several things that can help:
1. use saline drops in the nose (little noses is good) along with the nasal aspirator
2. a humidifier
3. if they are over 6 months single ingredient infant pseudopherine (like simply stuffy) to dry it up or infant benadryl if you think they are reacting to an allergen
4. when they sleep prop them up with a wedge in the crib or in the car seat or bouncy seat (if they are really sick the wedge is just not enough propping)
5. since it might be a reaction to some allergen try to wash as much fabric in you house as possible to remove dust, dander, and etc (bedding, throw blankets, stuffed animals, curtains, etc)
I put a pillow under the mattress to elevate their head while they sleep.
Try steam, warming eucalyptus oil (I have an oil burner that I use, and it works great!), and if all else fails, try a decongestant. If the baby's chest is congested, you're going to want something w/ psuedophedrine and guifenasin, which is an expectorant that'll break up the crud in his/her chest. Before giving your baby ANY medication, ALWAYS consult their pediatrician!!
turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom with the steam.

You can also use some nasal drops in the baby's nose, and a nasal aspriator to suck out the gunk.
have you tried a dehumidifier? A bit of Vick's in one for them might help. If you don't have one of those have you tried one of those new plug in Vick's aroma therapy's? Also a bath with lavender and metolipts stuff might loosen the baby up. Are you wanting none medicine ideas? Because depending on age of baby there are pedia drops for babies. Good luck hope one of these ideas works
Vicks sells a humidifier type thing that you put medicine in and put it in the room where they sleep...nose drops are good to help break things up (suck out the yucky stuff with the little blue bulb thing - we lovingly refer to it as "the blue bulb of death" in our house, but it works)
Ahh, we use the BBOD (blue bulb of death) we have a 6 month old and were told NOT to give her decongestant because it dries up the membranes and can cause weezing. (our baby had RSV) Our ped told us to use the saline drops with the BBOD and keep a humidifier in her room. We periodically steam up the bathroom, a trick we learned from the RSV scare.
Try some asline drops like little noses a few times a day like before bed or nap andnbefore feedings, also use a humidifier if your not already and keep it going all the time, don't have the baby sleep on his back put him more upright like in a swing, bouncy seat ,or car seat this will help too. good luck
I always use a humidifier, and the have Baby Vicks Vaporub now that you can use on the baby just put some on theur back or their chest and it works good, and it doesnt have that strong scent that regular Vicks does. Also try saline drops for the nose and suction it out, even though they hate it. Good luck
3 things.

1) Put a humidifier in the babies room. If you go with the Vick's model that is great, but a regular one will work.

2) Using the nasal asperator and keeping the nose as clear as possible. Nothing like sucking boogies out of your baby's nose at 3am, but that's a parents life.

3) Use saline drops in the baby's nose to help clear the congestion. Go to the store and what you want to buy is a product called "Little Noses" This stuff works awesome! Couple drops in each nostril to loosen the yuckies and 30-60min later suck them all out.

Here is a quick link to read on the product.
