Has anyone encountered a "bad experience" with a Guatemala adoption?
Answer:
My husband and I just brought home our adopted 3 year old son from Guatemala in October of this year. The entire process took a little less than a year. Usually the process is not quite that long, but we had to wait an extended period of time for the DNA due to the biological mom not being able come to Guatemala City for the testing when the first two meetings were scheduled.
Overall, the process went fine. We are already thinking about doing it again for another older child in an orphanage. Our son is doing GREAT.
As for adopting in the US. I feel that adopting parents feel in their heart where their children are. My husband and I tried domestic adoption twice before realizing that the doors just kept closing. When we decided to look into international adoption, it just felt "right". Children need a family no matter what country they are from. Don't let anyone put a guilt trip on you about not adopting from the US. When someone asks me WHY I didn't adopt from the United States, I just simply say "Because my son was in Guatemala."
Good luck!
actually I have a friend now who is doing this and its nothing but good stuff from what she tells me! good luck!
dont listen to the guy below me. the laws in the USA dont protect the adopting parents
There are many, many babies and children in the US that need adoptive parents. Why would you go through that whole process when you could be helping American children instead?
