How do i choose a breast pump?

i want to register for one...and only had to use the little handheld avent pump with baby #1 (it was awful! and slow!) but now i need to shell out for the double electric pump. i want to buy my own. how do i know which one i will like? do stores let you try them? what is considered the best? is it slow like the handheld? thanks!!

Answer:
When I went back to work, I used the Medela Instyle Pump (backpack style). It worked great, and I got it used from ebay. Some would say that's gross, but you can always buy (or sterilize) the cups, suction cups, etc. For 1/3 of the price, it was worth it. Plus, in 10 minutes it pumped 8 - 10 oz... very fast!

BTW, I did do a lot of comparisons online to help determine which one would work best for me.
when i was in the hospital after delivering my baby i brought in my own breas pump froim even flow, the nurses told me that if i wanted to pump my milk the best breast pump is the one that they sell at the hospital, i didnt care for those, but, she also told me that even if i didnt wanted to buy one there the one that you need is one that you can use daily, when you buy it check for that for a pump that is for daily use
The ones at the hospital are definetly the best but very expensive I would try the medella I used that one and it was very good.
You can rent one from the hospital or walgreens. If you qualify for WIC they will pay for the rental. If you have really good health insurance, they will pay for the cost of rental. Check it out.

Just make sure you get an electric hospital grade one.
Whatever you decide to do, do not buy First Years Deluxe Double Pump, it loses suction after a couple of weeks. I heard Medelas are really good, but they are expensive. From my experience, manual pumps are the most reliable, although yes, they are a little slow. My advise would be to stick to the manual one you have, but if you really want an electric one, go with Medela.
Also, do not rent pumps! It is impossible to completely sterilize a used pump, even a hospital one.
