Babys born with low birth weight?
is there still time to grow?
has anyone else had a low birth weight baby was he/she ok?
im just abit scared my midwife didnt tell me much today.
could i be worrying for nothing?
Answer:
your baby will be fine mom... all mothers worry, but you need to make sure you are near a hospital and dont depend on that midwife for a C section...
Their guess of what baby weighs right now is just that..a guess. It could easily be up to a pound off!
Yes, baby still has time to grow. They grow pretty quickly in these last weeks.
Yes, you still have 4 weeks. In your last month, women typically gain about 2 lbs. a week, not to worry, with technology today, your baby will be fine, even if born at a low weight. Congratulations!
She is almost 5 lbs and will probably gain a lb or 2. I think anything over 5 lbs is not considered low birth weight.
One of my twins came home with me two days after I gave birth and he weighed 4lb 11oz. (This was at 37 weeks) You have nothing to worry about...
Realistically she can't know for sure how much your baby weighs she is estimating. Babies grow and gain the most in the last couple of weeks. All of my kids were 7-8 pounds. I was 4 1/2 pounds at birth (32 years ago) and have no ill health problems. Your baby is almost 5 pounds, I bet by the time you give birth he will be over 7 pounds. Don't worry too much.
A baby can gain a pound every 2 weeks for the last month in the womb... in reality your baby could come out almost 7 pounds which is perfectly healthy. I am the God-mother of two babies, one boy and one girl, and I know through the mother that both of her babies put on a lot of weight in the last month, you should have nothing to worry about.
That is so close to 5 lbs. they can leave the hopitals at 5 lbs so your fine. The baby can gain that weight in 4 weeks easy. They tend to gain the most weight in the last 1 to 1 1/2 months anyway.
Both of my best friends grandchildren weighed less than that and they are just fine. 1 is 2 yrs old and the other is 1 just weeks from being 1 yr apart.. crazy I know.. but they are healthy and happy and most of all very well behaved kids.
I believe the ones that are very tiny the doc's worry about RSV but they grow out of that.
Between 36 and 40 weeks, an average baby will gain almost 2 pounds in weight. I really don't think you need to worry too much. The average for a 36 week fetus is 5.7 pounds, so your baby isn't very small.
I only weighed just over 5 pounds when I was born and I am now 5'6''. At school, I was one of the tallest girls for a few years!#
Don't worry - averages are just averages. By definition, some babies have to be below the average.
My son was born a month early weighing 5lbs 7 oz - the doctors say he probably didn't grow in the previous 4 weeks either.
He's now 19; not especially tall at 5'7" but his dad and I aren't tall either (5' 8" and 5' 3") but he's intelligent and fit and healthy.
You hear of babies who only weigh 1 lb surviving today, and doing well, so I don't think you've much to worry about.
Hi, I just had an appointment feb 2. and the doctor said that our baby weighed 4 pounds 15 oz. I am 35 weeks pregnant. They said that our baby is perfectly healthy, no need for concern.
hello .. my brother was born and his birth weight was only 2lb a bag of sugar and he is very well .. and i do think your midwife is right you are worrying to much .. but i do wish u all the best on your new born x
no dont worry, in the last weeks is when bub grows the most, but if its low birth weight dont panic, theres nothing you can do and bubs will be fine
i think that you might be scaring yourself. the reason why a baby's weight is concidered is most the time if a child is born too premature, they can start to estamate how much more time the child needs to catch up. not with it's weight but the time it will need to keep vital functions able to mature .a trimester means roughly three months, that'when they bein to estamate how much more time the child needs to keep developing in a normal manner. most times a child would seem underweight, but they usually can pile the weight near the last few weeks before birth. that's one reason why estamated birth weights are important during each stage of a pregnancy.
but there are those kids that are just normally born
skinny, so guess what mom, now you can step in and help it put on the pounds it needs to remain healthy.
( just stop worrying, if you are not in danger of giving birth premature, let it ride, skinny or not after the next 4 weeks are over, that kid is still yours,
keep healthy, eat right, and kinda just let things ride.
4 weeks may surprize you when your child is due to be born.
my children were 5 to 6 lbs and were fine, but remember this, there is no way anyone can tell you right now how much your baby weighs, it's only a guess, you have lots of time to grow, at your stage the baby is gaining everyday, i have had 5 children and what anyone told me of there weight was always way off, it sounds like you are perfect, don't worry, and tell your midwife not to give you her guesses because it is causing you stress, it may sound a little rude but it's unfair her giving you added stress at this time when things are stressful enough, good luck, you will be fine and your baby will be great
I would not worry, if your midwife thought there was anything 2 worry about she would have had you in hospital. My midwife told me that my son wasnt very big and he weighed 9lb 11oz when he was born, so they can only guess. Goodluck xx
Don't worry too much about it I had my daughter at 33 weeks and she was 4lb 3oz my God that was over 26 yrs ago and she is fine much more is available now. Wait and see maybe baby is heavier. Please don't worry you'll be fine and your baby good luck
My first baby was born weighing 5lb 13oz. she is healthy. Yes lot's of time for baby to grow and thats not precise answer...
(i mean the weight wont be that acurate!)
I gave birth 2 weeks early to a 4lb 11oz baby. She was tiny but perfect and we were home the same day from hospital. I am sure everything will be fine!
Hi i had my last daughter at 37 weeks after being told that she was going to be very small. She was born 5lb 6oz, fit and healthy. In the last two weeks they think that she put on almost half a pound so there is nothing to worry about. I brought her home the following day and she has had no problems since. Good luck and hope you have a fantastic birth.
Ur baby still has time 2 fatten up abit before birth!,thats basically wot they do in the last few weeks, but i would think that ur baby will still be abit under weight.Im sure if ur baby is born under weight that he/she will be fine, there are so many under weight babies now,the ospital will know what to do & how to look after ur baby properly.
I was born 16 weeks early and weighed only 1lb 14oz!!, i am now 19 and have a daughter of my own.I had no problems & caught up eventually. Both my brothers were also premature and very small, but r both fine and in their mid 20's.
As ur baby is set 2 be full term he/she should be nice and strong.
I hope u and ur baby both turn out ok, good luck & i wish u a happy healthy baby.
Take care,& if ur really worried have a chat with ur midwife or doc.
