Are my girls identical twins. 2 sacs but one placenta ?

My Twin girls who are nearly 12 were born 15 weeks early and doctors thought they were identical. They shared a placenta but had two sacs. As i said doctors think they are identical but all my family think they look slightly different.
I would love to have DNA test done but i think it is expensive.

Answer:
I know twins who are very different to look at but the confirmation form the hospital is that they're identical!

Had a look to see if there is any clear info on it

This is a direct quote from the following website.

Monochorionic and diamniotic. These identical twins share 1 placenta (monochorionic) but develop 2 separate fluid sacs (diamniotic). This is the most common type, accounting for around 75% of identical twin pregnancies and happens if the split occurs between days 3 and 8 after conception.

So yes, I would think it is more than likely that your girls are identical!
ITS ON CHANNEL 4 AT THE MINUTE
if their twelve years old then perhaps they have rights to look slightly different. y dont you ask the doctors what is a determinate of identical twins as oppose to fraternal twins. they are entitled to grow different i doubt their hearts beat at the same rhythum. and like you said slightly different isnt a very big difference.
They are identical. Identical twins don't always look exactly alike. This link explains it.

Do a search for idential twins and one for superidential twins.
they are your kids you think they look alike?

but they could be
Identical twins are not perfectly identical. While everything determnied by genetic will be identical, some things will be different. If they developpe different tastes for food, their body is gonna be different as per their eating habits. If one is more active then he will be more muscular.

By the age of 12, they will have had many different experiences. A broken leg can slow the growth of one of the twins for example. And even identical twins can be told apart if you really know them.
Fraternal Twins Share Placenta?
Doctors in the New England Journal of Medicine have documented a case of dizygotic (aka fraternal) twins sharing a placenta, contradicting common medical assumptions that only monozygotic (identical) share a single placenta in the womb. They acknowledge that the test-tube fertilization procedure used to conceive the twins could have been a factor influencing the placenta structure.
harry's right, was on channel 4 today at 9, all about twins/ triplets and quads. was amazing. they did mention twins being in two differnt sacks, and i think its natural, just happens sometimes.
If you have identical twins its because the egg split into two, if they are not identical it means they are conceived using two different eggs which then means they might not look anything alike at all. Do they look like the spitting image of the other one. They can still be identical and use the same placenta, I watched a program called miracles in the womb about how identical twins are conceived. There will be a slight difference in both of them, be it height or weight.

Identical twins are usually mirror images or their twin, if one is left handed and the other is right handed then theres more of a chance that they are identical.

If i were you I would get out the books on identical twins and just read up on the facts first before having to fork out for expensive DNA tests.

Hope this helps.

Good luck
I HAVE TWIN BOYS 15 NOW THEY HAD THERE OWN SACS AND PLACENTAS AND THERE NOT IDENTICAL I'M NOW CARING TWIN GIRLS IN ONE SAC AND TOLD THAT 99.99% IDENTICAL SO I WOULD SAY THAT THEY ARE VERY MUCH ALIKE BUT NOT MIRROR IMAGE..
