Underweight Infant?

I have an 8 month old son who weighs 15lbs. He is not even on the chart. He do not want to be table fed and gets frustrated and then I have to give him the bottle. He is also getting Supplemental Vitamins. Is there anything I can do or give him to help him gain weight?

Answer:
He doesnt need to start solids until he is one years old.Try adding rice or oatmeal cereal to his formula for extra calories. Also, try mixing some of the stage 1 (Gerber jar food) to his formula so that he becomes accustomed to different tastes. He may just be a finicky eater.
I had the same thing happen. I got some PEDIA_SURE and gave it to him in addition to his formula. I also continued giving him babyfood when he wouldn't eat from the table.
he should be drinking baby formula!
He's just not going to be a very big person. Try getting a bottle called an infa-feeder, you can put cereal or baby food in this bottle, it has a special nipple with three or four holes, it is a wonderful invention for babies who just refuse to eat out of a spoon. Good luck.
I don't think that sounds that small. How big was he when he was born? I know some people who's children were 17 pounds at one.
Ask your doctor about giving him small amounts of Pedisure my son was about 1 when we started giving it to him, try adding baby cereal to his bottles they pick up weight quick that way.
u need to take him to see a dr. to see why he has a "failure to thrive". a baby under 1 only needs to eat formula or breast milk.
I am not one to suggest bottle feeding but in these circumstances I would put cereal in the babies bottle so he is getting more to eat and just make the hole a little bigger so the cereal can come out.
the most important food right now is the formula, there is no rush to give him baby food, try cereal and then vegetables and fruit, maybe he's just not ready yet
the health visitor told me my 8 mnth old was underweight at 19lbs! as long as your baby is healthy and you are satisfying his appetite i wouldn't worry too much, every baby is different, they grow and develop at different rates. as for him not liking been fed at the table, try feed him in his baby walker to begin with, my little boy has a proper paddy every time i put him in his high chair but once es fastened down he soon gives in, stick with it don't let him get the better of you otherwise hel know what to do to get his own way in the future!
Hi, my daughter just turned 8 months on the 10th and she weighs 15lbs 2oz and was 5lbs 2oz when she was born and she is the most tiny lil thing. I baught her new clothe the other day and had to purchase size 0-3 months her being small is so nerve recking because in my mind a million things could be wrong...even though the doctors say she is fine, just small. I really do not know what to tell as what to give him to eat but you could ask the doctor about a higher calorie formula they have some on the shelves and they also have some that you need a prescription for maybe your doctor would prescribe that. I am taking my daughter to the doctor tomorrow for a check up and going to ask about her weight and a higer calorie formula. I know i probably didnt help much but if your son is just small than hang in there but if you are having a "gut" feeling that something is wrong, you should take him in to be seen. Good Luck!
