Questions about newborn baby..?

It has been a while since I have had a newborn. My other daughter is 6. When the peeling process starts with the newborn skin, how long does that lasts? When the umbilical cord falls off, do I need to still be cleaning it with the alcohol swabs? Do newborn gums have a little white color in it as if you would be able to see where the teeth would come in? Someone told me that you could use the spring water like aquafina to add to the formula if you didn't want to have to boil the water. Can you? What all should my little one be doing now? Thanks

Answer:
1st: My daughter's skin started peeling at about 5 days and her's peeled for about a month. Most just peel for a week or two.
2nd: I cleaned my daughter's belly button for about a week after the stump fell off, because she still had some gunk in it. I think that one is entirely up to you.
3rd: My daughter's gums were like that, too. I don't know what causes it, but it is pretty common.
4th: Bottled water is perfectly fine. But I personally would recommend Nursery Water, because it has the extra fluoride babies need.
5th: Not a whole lot. The first month or two, all they pretty much do is sleep, eat, and poop.

As I'm sure you know, enjoy it because it goes by REALLY fast!
Congratulations and Good Luck!
My sons skin started to peel about a week after birth and that lasted for about a week or so. I didn't use alcohol on his belly button after the stump fell off. And, I'm sorry, I don't reme, ber what his gums looked like. I breastfed, still am, never gave him formula... so I can't answer that question.

Best wishes.
The white spots on the gums are referred to as milk teeth. It may also be thrush, so check with the dr. if you are not sure.

You can use bottled water for formula----I used Culligan for both of my kids because the city water from the tap would constipate them. Wal-Mart, Meijer & K-mart all have places where you can buy and fill up jugs of spring water.

I cleaned the umbillical stump until it fell off and then maybe a day or two after, especially if it is still healing or looks to be oozing or gooey.

When in doubt, ask your pediatrician.
I'm not sure about skin peeling, because my son's didn't. You do not have to use alcohol after the stump falls off. And I don't know how the water is where you live, but I used regular tap water. My doctor told me that you shouldn't boil the water, because the babies immune system needs to be exposed to things so that it will grow. Just take it one day at a time, and remember that babies are not as fragile as many people treat them. Oh, and my son's gums were a little white around 3 months. He started teething early, though.
The peeling can go on for a long time. I think some places were still peeling at 2 months.

Generally the advice now is not to swab the umbilical cord with anything before or after it falls off.

They are now saying NOT to use tap water to make formula because it has too much flouride. Use flouride free bottled water. Which *may* need to be boiled depending on your baby.

On both of my little ones their skin "peeled" for about 2 weeks or so.

After the umbilical stump came off, our pediatrician told us we no longer needed to use alcohol on the belly button.

I once read that distilled, not spring, water should be used in formula since the minerals in spring water may interact with the formula.

Though an infant's gum are light, I never was able to see any teeth before they appeared. I could only tell they were about to erupt through the gum by rubbing their gums and feeling the "bumps".

You shouldn't use bottled water for feeds, you should always used boiled water. The white in the gums is just the teeth in the gums ready to grow through. The skin peels for just a few weeks - nothing to worry about!
