Can you use baby wipes on newborns?

It may sound like a silly question to some, but my sister says that you can't use baby wipes when your baby is first born. However, with all of the new Sensitive and Extra Sensitive wipes out on the market I would think that those would be okay! Does anyone know first hand, or used any of these new wipes on their babies?

Answer:
I was giving baby wipes by the nurses when my daughter was born. If they weren't ok, I don't think a hospital would be condoning the use of them!
5 and a half years later I still have them readily available for anyone!
And believe me with some of the things that newborns can make in their diapers, I wouldn't leave home without them!!
Doctor's suggest that you don't use wipes for the first month. This is why hospital's don't use them for newborns either. They sell "baby washcloths" which are gentle enough for a newborn.
Yes, you can use them on newborns. I always used the sensitive wipes, though, just to be on the safe side. I never had any problems.
I have been told to use wool cloths, sometimes wipes can be to harsh on a brand new baby! I have heard more than a few people and sites recommend the wool cloths for newborns!
you can use wipes but make sure you use the extra sensitive...
With new borns, their skin is still sooo sensitive and baby wipes have alchol in them, even if its just a small amount. A warm wash cloth is best for the first couple of weeks.
of course you can!! just dont use any with alcohol in it.
I used baby wipes from day one. The only time I did not use them was when he got a bad diaper rash. Then I had to use a wet washcloth. You can buy the ones w/o alcohol and sensitive etc. That is why they call them BABY wipes. What in the world did your sister use? Wipe warmers are great too.
Yes you can use wipes on newborns, however they may react to them. As may older babies. You can try wipes, preferably without perfume however sensitive and extra sensitive have no legal definition and are generally just advertising ploys.

Your other option is to use plain water. Water can be kept warm in a wipe warmer and you can use good cloths, good quality paper towel or at some drugstores you can get hospital grade paper napkins/paper clothe.
Being a mom I've used baby wipes from the beginning and being a neonatal nurse we also use them. When I gave birth the hospital even sent me home with a pack of pamper brand baby wipes. I don't know where your sis got her info but as far as I know its ok. Now, I'll admit some people are scared to so they use cotten balls with baby oil on them but I think as long as you wipe right and moniter your baby's skin then its fine.
I've used baby wipes on both my boys when they were just born, in fact the hospital gave me some to use. My boys never had a problem or anything. Good luck!
yes you can.. do not listen to her. there is no reason not to use them. Yes the sensitive ones are better( more comfy) to the child but you can use any of them that you would like
i always used the Parents Choice Unscented brand. from the day i brought her home (she was 3 days old) until now. i never had a problem with irritability or anything, unless she had a rash. then sometimes the wipes would sting her bottom, so i would use very soft tissues the were wet with warm water and she seemed very happy about that
at the hospital the nurses used wet paper towels..but I think it was just to save money..when I brought my son home I used non scented wipes..no rashes and everything was okay
Never heard of that one. I have 3 boys and a baby on the way and I always used baby wipes on them. They even give them to you at the hospital.
I used baby wipes with all three of my kids from day one. Didn't bother them. I didn't like the ones that the hospital gave me, they were too thin and just made a big mess. I would use a warm, soft washcloth if they had a diaper rash though. Seemed like it helped them better, but that's just my opinion. Use your own judgement. Good luck!!
Any time you're using something new on a baby, you want to watch for a reaction. But I would think that, in general, a sensitive baby wipe would be fine. Before wipes, mom's used washcloths with soap - how could wipes be any worse?
Well, that could be why they make sensitive wipes. I used those on my daughter when she was a new born and I had no trouble with them.
I have used baby wipes on both my children (3yrs & 5yrs) with no problems. I suggest using something like Pampers Sensitive or Xtra Sensitive. The wipes are so soft that they feel like Kleenex.
If you still have concerns you may feel better rinsing the wipes in a bowl of lukewarm water before using them.
Also, definitely buy a wipe warmer! I bought one for my son when he was born and still use it for my daughter. It keeps the wipes warm for baby. Imagine someone sticking a cold cloth to your warm behind!! They can be bought just about anywhere for $15-$20.
My son always got diaper rashes whenever I used baby wipes. So I started wiping him with a soft wash cloth w/ lukewarm water. I did use baby wipes on outings though for convenience but that was it. You can try them on your baby but if you see they're causing him/her rashes then switch to wash cloths.
yes, you can use baby wipes on babies. i used baby wipes on my baby and she was just fine. that is why they are called BABY wipes.
We buy kirkland signature brand because they are really cheap and we ALWAYS, WHEN WE ARE HOME, fill a little bowl up with warm water to rinse the chemicals off the wipes before using them. So you have the convienence of throwing them out(really nice for the poopy diapers)and they are gentle on baby's bottom. You can even soak some ahead of time and the wipes get even softer from sitting in the warm water for twenty minutes or so.
yes
I used them, had no problems. I think just watch for signs of irritation, and if they are alright, no problem.
absolutely, especially since u are not supposed to bath ur baby until umbilical cord falls off.
