How to make your own baby shower favors?
Answer:
It can be just as expensive to make one as it is to buy one! The sellers have discounts.or buy in bulk! (that is how it works with me!!)
If you decide that you would like to buy one..contact me. I do all of my cakes custom and I don't charge ridiculous prices. I pretty much charge the same it would cost you to do it yourself. I ship anywhere, too!
If you want to make your own.here is the simplest way to do it. I call this "Blankets as Icing" style.
Get a package of about 50 diapers. Roll each one and secure it with a rubber band. Stand them on end.and place them in concentric circles. One in the middle, five surrounding that, ten surrounding that. Once you have a good sized bottom tier..secure all those stood-up diapers with a piece of ribbon. Tie it tight.but make sure the ribbon doesn't slide underneath or above the layer!! Once it is secure.remove the diapers one by one and take the rubber band off. Then re-insert it without the rubberband...keeping the rubberbands on will be a pain for mommy when it is time for her to start using them!!
Do this again for the 2nd and 3rd tier. Obviously you will want to make those tiers smaller.
Once the tiers are done..cover them in blankets (or crib sheets or hooded towels??). The bottom tier can have a big blanket. Place the tier in the middle of the spread blanket.and then pull the blanket up and tuck it into the middle of the cake (you may need to remove a few diapers to make room for the extra material). For the other tiers.fold the blankets .or crib sheet.or hooded towels..so that they are the same width as the tier. Wrap them around and secure them with two diaper pins!!
Find coordinating ribbon and wrap that around the tiers. Tuck items into that ribbon. Bigger items on the bottom tier.powder, bath, oil, photo albums, etc. Smaller items on the top.pacifiers, rattles, etc. A wrist rattle is always nice to put on. Don't forget the plush animal topper!!
I hope that helped!! Good luck and have fun!
(By the way.I have found that the Huggies Diapers are better to work with for the cakes!)
I found making our own sometimes costs as much as buying them. I went to a shower where they handed out chocolate cigars. It's was adorable. Order a box...$10 everyone is covered.
I made one for my daughter's shower. It's lots of fun! Plus the decorations were ones I knew she would need and use. I made mine from cloth diapers (which she wanted for burp cloths) You can do a yahoo search for 'diaper cake instructions' or check out some that are for sale on the net .lots of great ideas out there and they are basically all made the same way.
