Why is my baby hitting herself in the head?

does anyone know where I might find info on why my baby would be hitting herself in the head. It's always on the same side, and she does it at different times.

Answer:
she's thinking, why the hell did i choose this family
How old is this baby? If she's 8 mo. or older she might have an ear infection if shes also crying. Otherwise, it might be that you make mention of it when she does it, so it makes for a great attention getter. Otherwise, when a mother is concerned, she should consult her childs doctor. What do we folks know? :)
DEAR SHE IS REALLY MAD AT SOME THING ARE SOME ONE WHO MADE HER THAT A WAY AND SHE DOES THIS TO LET YOU KNOW SHE IS REALLY MAD AT YOU ARE ANY FAMILY
TAKE CARE GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY NEW YEAR IF IT KEEPS ON CALL THE NURSE DOCTOR ER IF SHE CAN NOT TALK SHE IS TRYING TO TELL YOU SHE IS REALLY MAD AT SOMETHING I DO NOT KNOW WHAT AT THIS TIME OK.
Tell her Pediatritian about this problem immediately. It is always good to report this kind of unusual behavior.
However, beyond the physical possibilities, your baby may have realized that hitting herself on the side of the head is a good way to get attention. If she is right handed, she would naturally hit herself on the right side. Good luck.
Well first off how old is your baby? When my 7 year old was a baby he would hit his cheek from time to time just to see "cause and effect". Other than that I wouldn't worry she will outgrow it.
You need to mention this to your pediatrician. There can be many normal reasons for this. It can also be an early sign of one of the syndromes associated with autism.
I have a 16 month old, and she does it sometimes just to be cute. She does it and laughs. But does yours do it and cry, or does she do it like she's playing? If she's doing it and crying, she might have an ear infection, or have bumped something and it hurts, since they can't tell you something hurts yet. If she's crying, or acting like she's in pain, I would call the doctor and just ask a nurse, they'll tell you what they think.
How old is the baby?? My son head-banged as a child for many months. I was totally mortified and convinced he was autistic.
( He's not) He was 1 1/2 at the time. I think he liked the reaction he got we would all freak out. As hard as it is ignore the behavior and it will stop. It will seem like forever but it does stop! I have read some children do this as a way of comforting themselves I know it's odd! If he's younger than 1 I would rule out anything medical by asking their Dr. Just remember this too shall pass!
(Mine is 7 now)
