How can I get my 8 month old son to play with his toys?

My son has tons of toys but prefers to play with everything else including the computer, the sock bin, and the radio. I've spread his toys out like my mom has told me but he doesn't want to play with them. He has stuffties and things that make noise but he doesn't want ot play with them. Oh I don't have a playpen since he doesn't like them and a play yard won't help in a small two bedroom apartment. Help?

Answer:
Why do you care? I'm sure it's annoying, but pick your battles. If he can keep himself happy playing with socks, plastic dishes and the radio dial, count your blessings; many kids don't. Put away the toys, enjoy a tidier house, and let your son play with anything (safe) that attracts his attention.
Get down on the floor and play with his toys. He will see you do that and want to do what his mommy is doing.
My son is the same age and I'm going through the same thing. We live in a one bedroom apartmemt and know what its like. Anyway, we just baby proffed our house and let our son play with stuff that isn't so dangerous. My son really likes to play with boxes and movie cases.
Who in the world is allowing him to play with a computer and radio... children don't just learn this by themselves..
Children are extremely inquisitive and when they see you doing something then they want to do the same - this is how they learn. Just give him his own drawer or clear out a bottom kitchen cabinet and place his toys in there. Then he will soon be playing with his own toys and leave everything else alone.
I did this with all 3 of my children when they were small.
first only give him a few choices and get down on the floor and play with him. too many toys out will overstimulate him and he'll not be sure what to do. he is only 8 months and his attention span is only a few moments. you need to teach him how to play with them. he has no idea and needs to be shown. good luck.
first of all not all babies are going to like their toys...so just babyproof and let him explore...be careful too
Teach by example. He will want to do what you're doing and spend time with you. Start off by playing with the toys WITH him. Ultimately, he wants to be where you are, doing what you're doing, so get down on the floor and play with him. He will learn by watching you.
