TOO much??
I have Lax conditioning at night(gymnastics is in the morning) but that is not as bad.I also go swimming a few times a week.
What can I do?? I don't mind the pain( I broke my wrist once during a meet and continued competing with it) I eat really healthy. I am a vegetarian so my mom stocks our house with tons of healthy food.
Parents, Is this too much for a 16 year-old girl?? Would you let me??
Answer:
I think it's too much but at 16 years old I'd let you make your own decisions and once you realised it was too hard on yourself hopefully you can choose to drop some of those activities.
Are you ready to quit? I think you better talk to your parents. They probably think this is very important to you. If you're ready to be done, they just might be relieved. By the way, if you were my daughter, no, I wouldn't let you spend this much time on conditioning. You could be doing permanant damage to your legs.
It's too much when you stop getting your period or you feel overwhelmed.
If it was my child and she was unhappy, I would talk her into quitting or cutting back the routines. Your life is about you, Not your parents. If you are hurting all the time, that is not a great life. I am sure your parents have a lot invested in this and will be disappointed if you quit. They are proud and have invested a lot. HOWEVER< they will still love you. THEY love you more than life itself, that is why they have invested what they have.
If you were my daughter, I would have you slow down a little bit. Your over working your body. You need to drop one or two of the things you are doing right now. You have school on top of all the practices.
I would make you slow down.
only you can say when it's to much. that does sound like a lot of exercise to me though. are you going to a meet or something? your only young once, are you sure this is how you want to spend your youth?
The fact that your "stomach feels like it is ripping in two" is not a good sign. And the fact that you broke your wrist and continued to competing with it is not something to brag about... it's foolish. Only you can answer truthfully whether or not you NEED to slow down. You have to ask yourself if you're enjoying what you're doing and how you feel.
I worked in orthopedics for many years. A lot of our patients were athletes or athletic. Moderation is the key. Too much athletic activity is not good for your bones or joints or other organs. God did not make us to jump off a parallel bar over and over : ) Exercise is great but not as much as you are doing.
Just one of the side effects of all you described, and there are many, is that you could also develop arthritis at an early age. That is a painful incurable condition. Cortisone and pain pills would be a big part your future. You need to decide how important this is to you. Are you making a career out of it? If not, I would definitely slow down before you do irreparable damage to your body. I would not let my children do all you are doing.
